Being OCD extreme, how did you ever tolerate those awful forging lines for 8 years!!?? Of course I'm kidding -- I didn't think it possible you could make those wheels look even better, but you did. Congrats on redefining "perfectionism".

Heat and Cold Beer works ! ... Don't forget a few lady friends and a nice fireplace to keep me warm polishing.... A good hockey game would be a plus as well...
I drove it Sunday twice...
Hey Marc, been meaning to drive mine up to you so you can practice some more. Since Steve is volunteering to pay for your flight down, that saves me drive up. I don't mind getting a case or two of beverages to help you and Steve. I figure since he didn't do this for me when he detailed my car,he owes me. Haven't seen you on here in awhile, car looks awesome as always, L8R ZFLASH

Damn Toque, you're kill'n me!!!
I spent 2 days polishing my 505A's over the Christmas/New Years week, with Adams and Webril wipes, based on your previous CCW polishing thread.
I was so proud of myself, and thought that they looked fantastic. My back is still pizzed off at me. Now, I'm embarrassed to even post any pics on here after this...
LOL! J/K! Thanks for taking it to the next level, and giving the rest of us something to aspire to. Car looks great as always!

...Great JOB!
I JUST LOVE SUPERBLY POLISHED WHEELS!!
...most folks cant imagine a polished wheel shining like chrome.
I even fooled an NCCC judge with my polished HRE's.
It takes 4-5 hours per wheel, especially initially.
Then, OCD is discipline enough to KEEP them looking pristine!
...btw I love that style wheel and hoping to have a set someday myself!
You will undoubtedly post the finished results on your corvette and I will be watching.

I hope to do one wheel a weekend..
I got 3 more to go....
But your right. Once they are smooth and perfect its much easier to maintain. A quick 3000 grit sanding and polish is all they will need from here forward. Any scratches from road debris require a little more attention, but that's easy to fix. Its just finding the time...

FWIW, this discussion wound up being posted over on LS1Tech.......
It also brings back memories of something I did a LONG time ago, as a "winter project". I had a set of American Racing "Hurricane" wheels, they were the ones that looked like a turbine fan, with 15 spokes. The spokes were "finished" with a rather rough cut surface, and I decided to smooth them out, and give them a polished finish. They looked pretty good when I was done, bur it took almost ALL winter. it was a lot of work...........

Burning Brakes
I attempted to polish up the barrels of a "new to me" set of HRE's. Although they cleaned up well they did not come out any where as good as what Toque has accomplished.
Being OCD as well, looks like i have more work ahead of me.

Good job, but I'm not a fan.
I feel like those lines show the presicion of the great machining CCW does when they forge the wheels. Rounding out those edges makes them look even more like C5 DD wheels...

Everyone:
I decided to sand my CCW's wheels smooth. I wanted to remove all the forging lines that were originally left after they were created. I wanted them to be as much of a mirror as I could get.
Just because I'm very OCD.... I got it bad...
They are 8 years old now and needed a polish anyway. Its been a few months....
To remove the forging lines I used 320 grit in some places, but the 600 grit worked well for most of the rough spots. Then I sanded these locations with 1000, then 1500, then 2000, then 3000, then Adams Metal Polish #1 and then #2.
The already smooth spots I just sanded with 2000 grit, then 3000 and then Adams Metal Polish #1 and then #2. Sanding with 2000 grit ensured that I got all scratches off that I did not notice.
I also ONLY use Webril cotton wipes to polish, as any other cloth WILL scratch the Aluminum as your polishing.
Now I just need to do that other 3 wheels.
Enjoy !

3 More wheels to go....
