I've bought vehicles at the Mitch Silver and Mecum auctions, but never at the B.J. auction, even though they've been out here the last couple of years. (Hot August Nights) What's up with the guy who always wears the sun glasses? Very annoying. Maybe that's why I never attended one. Is there something wrong with his eyes? Makes him look very shady to me.
That reminds me. A few years ago at the Silver auction out here, a guy had a 98 pace car. He said that right after he bought it, he was offered 90K for it! Of course I thought he was blowing smoke and told him he should have sold it! It had less than 100 miles and the bidding never got higher than 20K. I don't know what he was asking because those things look like clown cars to me. I wonder how much he spent over the years towing that thing around to auction after auction. He sure didn't drive it enough to enjoy it. This was around 2012. I don't know, maybe we're just to stupid or to poor out here to realize what a great investment a purple vette with yellow wheels is. I ended up buying this. No regrets.
$30,800 That just shows how over inflated the prices are at these auctions. I thinks its like going to the tables in Las Wages, they ply the whales full of free booze and get you all worked up in the heat of the moment so that you will big high and bid often.
I went several years ago to the Barrett Jackson auction in Vegas. Definetly, one of my favorite trips I have taken. The auction is like one big entertainment show with lots of cars and famous people walking around.
I was outside looking at the cars and and guy walks up and asks if I have a cigarette. I give him one and we talk for a few minutes. He then takes his backstage pass off and gives it to me. I was stunned and excited. The only time having a pack of smokes has paid off. Making my way to the floor and backstage was quite the experience. I was standing there and watched several cars go across the auction block and then the legends.....
I'm backstage, and watch Carroll Shelby and Don Prudhomme drive around the corner and make their way to the auction block. As they drive by 5ft from me Carroll Shelby looks over, smiles, and waves. It was by far the highlight of the trip.

I saw a tv interview with him and there is something wrong with his eyes, I think it is like Richard Pettys problem.
02bnkc your red C2 is like the Vette that started my love for the Corvette.
Thanks. That car would draw a crowd. I stupidly sold it a couple of years ago and have been on the hunt for another one just as nice. C1 prices are getting up there with the c2's now. I don't know if I can afford another one!

The guy in the sunglasses is Steve Davis. He has a medical condition that makes his eyes sensitive to bright light, and there are lots of TV lights on stage. From what I have seen, he is a nice guy. I've seen him interact with everyone from high-dollar car owners to spectators, and he has been gracious and friendly every time.
