I'll be watching to see how much the bidding gets to on that pace car. I prefer Mecum auctions to BJ however. BJ can be like a 3 ring circus atmosphere at times, so much going on.
Mecum is coming in June this year to Portland for the first time. I'm planning on going at least one day.
First time was an anniversary present from my wife. She'd made some calls and got me the opportunity to drive a car across the block. Car that was picked for me by the Mecum folks was a 69 Camaro resto mod. Had one of the 69 recreated original ZL1 aluminum big blocks and five speed. Bidding stopped at $75K and the bid went on. Wife got into a conversation with the seller's girl friend as they both shadowed the car through the staging lanes and found out the seller was wanting $125K for it. Here's a pic of the car on the block with me behind the wheel.
2nd time I bought my vette at the auction. I got it for over $100K less than what the guy wanted for that Camaro!

Barrett-Jackson keeps getting bigger. We spent seven hours there yesterday, none of it in the auction area (better to see that part on TV). Lots of cars on display indoors and probably three times more under the huge outdoor tents.
WE went Monday-- fewer crowds and lots to see . . .and will probably go back later in the week. With sunny skies and temps around 70 until Sunday, it should draw record crowds. Next week is the Phoenix Open golf tournament, so there's always something to do this time of year.
I agree with Harley - - much easier to see the cars on TV and be able to mute the annoying auctioneer banter.
Should be a great week with the BJ and all the other auctions and shows.

Heck yeah....auctions, shows, and a BJ. Where do sign up?
In all seriousness, what I can't stand about Barrett-Jackson is their constant begging for more money and dragging out the sale. If you have a number you want to hit, then stop doing no reserve on those cars. Makes no sense, let the market dictate the value, not the auction house. Or go to a reserve format like Mecum.
Heading to the Mecum Indy Auction on their opening day. Typically lower biding but also typically some good buys available for the Bargain
Hunter. Carry a big stick and a heck of lot of cash
Always a great time. My dad and I go every year. Great bbq too. Schwag is top notch. Amazing cars all around. You get to see some stuff that you've only seen in books and on TV.
