Looking at buying a 2004 C5. The car has these wheels on. Wheels are chrome. Anyone know what these wheels are ? are they aftermarket ? The guy bought Corvette new and swapped the OEM wheels at dealership when he purchased.
I asked for the OEM wheels and they called the original owner, he said wheels were swapped out from dealer when car was new. Guess he is full of crap..
Just searched for chrome spyder wheels.
You are correct, that is what these wheels are. C6 wheels.
Car is perfect except for the missing OEM wheels.
Only 19,000 miles.
A lot of C6-style reproduction wheels for the C5 can be had in the same wheel size as the OEM application for the C5. It's done not only for appearance and application sake but also so you can re-use the tires on the old wheels. That's about the only excuse I can come up with re: what the owner is saying although it doesn't fit into the owner's narrative. Maybe the owner had the wheels installed at the dealer during some sort of service routine?
Many run reproduction wheels on their C5s which is evident by the rather large Corvette reproduction wheel market by vendors. However for the most part they are noticeably of weaker design than OEM wheels. If your plan for the car is performance or track driving it is recommended you not run reproductions in those applications. For a daily driver the wheels would work just fine.
If you're really wanting the car you could offload the Spyder wheels with tires likely for the same amount as a good OEM set of the C5 five spokes. I wouldn't call out the owner on the discrepancy though, especially if you can get the car for a good deal.

Thanks for the info. I didn't buy the car yet, this is one of the items holding me back. I was surprised C6 wheels fit a C5, but your explanation makes sense.

Sounds like it's offered by a dealership . . .you have to wonder what other things they've told you that are misrepresentations - -clearly, they don't know Corvettes very well.
Run your own car fax or VIS report . . .trust, but verify.
If you want the car, tell the dealer that you will buy it...IF he swaps out the wheels. Trust me, they will find a car on their lot or somewhere and make it happen. If you do buy it, I would assume that NONE maintenance had been done and go from there.

If the car is a good deal except for the wheels I would NOT let that stop me. As stated above there are hundreds of different style wheels that will fit the C5 correctly including reproduction 5 spoke. Even OEM C6 and C7 wheels have he same mounting pattern as the C5, although the Offset of those wheels is not correct but that doesn't stop C5 owners that want to make their own statement with their C5.....
If you are new to C5's here are a couple links you should read through to help in the education process:
