Default MGW shifter issue

Ever since we installed the MGW going from 4 to 5 is a little challenging. There is play in the stick while in 4th gear left to right. So if you don't move the stick right to take up the slack before leaving 4th you will often end up back in 3rd instead of 5th. I was at my transmission guy yesterday helping a friend drop off his BMW for a clutch and I asked the mechanic about it. He told me it sounds like I got a bad shifter because there is nothing else that could cause that. Is that a possibility? I put the stock shifter back in and tried it and the problem was solved. Put the MGW back in and the problem is still there.

Thoughts? Anyone else experienced this? I love the shifter but find this very annoying. And I did the lower box when I did the shifter.

Thanks.
According to the video instructions the alignment is perfect. I will check out that thread. Don't know if it's related but it pops out of reverse too.

The only issue I had with mine was adjusting the shifter too low which made shifting it nearly impossible.

Make sure the shift rod pinch bolt is as tight as you can get it without stripping it, I had slop in my MGW, though it was tight enough, I was wrong...check that first, other than that time to call MGW.

hopefully it's something that simple... I have an older mgw shifter in my car and it has been great since I've owned it, I don't have any experience with his newer shifters with the lower box though

I love the shifter. Well made. Vastly superior to stock feel even with this little issue. I'm betting it's something stupid and that's why I figured posting this was worth the time. I was figuring that as with most things I'm not the first one to experience it and this crowd has been amazing at helping any time I've had any issue. Please don't misunderstand or think I regret this purchase. I just want to work the kinks out.

I am sure that it is something simple... Perhaps something that you overlooked. A buddy and I installed mine in about an hour... It's perfect in every way. No slop, no jumping out of reverse or the like. As others have said, check it and if it doesn't work out, call George.
Is your the flat stick?

Problem solved. It was 100% install error and no reflection on the product. It was the bolt in the little pinch clamp that secures to the shaft. I thought I had it tight enough. I was scared of stripping it. I followed advice posted above. Re aligned everything and tightened that torx about 3/4 turn further. Voila no more issue. Feels like it should. No more searching for or popping out of reverse. Throw between 2-3 and 4-5 are 1/3 of what they were. No more play or slop while in gear. The shifter is everything promised and more.

New problem. lol. I think I cracked the stock shift **** trying to get it tight so now I need to pick a new shift ****.

I feel like I got a new and better car today. The difference is that dramatic.
