Nice looking car and finish. FYI I bought a Nano Skin claying mitt from Amazon. It is easier to use and covers a much bigger area with less work. Result was very good and worked great on the glass as well.
Never would have thought about plumbers putty. Good idea and certainly much cheaper solution . That is why the forum is such a great way to get information.
Regards,
Jim
I bought a nano skin to try this spring. Heard some good reviews. Sounds like it is a heck of a lot quicker.
When I posted yesterday in this thread, I didn't have a picture of the Vette handy to download to show the results of claying with plumbers putty.
This pic was taken soon after detailing the Vette.
It leaves a smooth finish so that any wax will make the vehicle look great.
I also used the putty on my classic tbird, and my pickup.
You need to see (and I will post a picture later) the tbird.
The red really pops.

For what it's worth I clay bared mine shortly after I bought it, and it made a difference. The three weeks later I was introduced to Chadwick's and after the clay bar the Chadwick's even made more of a difference and I was hooked !!!!
As I stated in the thread above, here is a pic of the Tbird after detailing.
Plumbers putty instead of claybar, and the wax used is good ole turtle wax.
I think the key to a good job, is preparation , and I found plumbers putty works just as well as a claybar.
The only thing I dislike about the putty is you have to keep shaping it after a few times using it on the finish, but other than that, it works fine, and leaves a very smooth finish so the wax glides on.
