Your window may be streaking because there's still some surface oil or dirt on it when you finish wiping it off. I have no problem with Windex or any glass cleaner or ammonia based product (keep it off the paint and the rubber) or water, with the final wipe of newspaper. You may try and clean your windshield with a rub with whatever cleaner you like and 0000 steel wool to make sure all the surface grit is removed, then clean it again and dry it with newspaper. I've also applied RainX when done and that also keeps it clean a while longer. There's an exhaustive OCD video on the forum somewhere (can't find it now) if you want to be nuts about this and there are also innumerable videos and articles on YouTube and Google if you want to search for them. There are as many ways and opinions to do this as there are products and that probably means that none of them are any better than anything else. You will get as many opinions as there are members who want to post up their thoughts and suggestions, and that can be good.
And don't forget to clean the dirt and grime off your wiper blades.
I had this problem on my 84. Anything I used would streak the windows. I bought some Stoner Invisible Glass in the aerosol can and no more streaks. It is all I use now and can be purchased most anywhere.
I use this as well as Chadwicks!!!

as some people here know I am a Chadwick's believer, Neil told Me (Neil has over 40 years in detailing cars) that after I finish Chadwick the car take the main micro fiber towel now wet with the Chadwick's (and don't spray the window) and wipe the intended window then with a new micro fiber towel buff it off !!!!!!!! I'm 64 and the streaky window is a pet peeve so it is the easiest and best way I have used !!!!!

You can find them for as little as $5 shipped. I was impressed with it, no streaks on Windows and no cleaner needed just water. Works really good on lcd's too. Just as good as newspaper if not better and lasts longer.
The Adam's how-to video says that for glass its all about having the correct microfiber rag. Adams has a green microfiber specific for windows. I'm sure other brands do as well.
Before I retired, I worked in the precision optics industry, and I'm REALLY "OCD" about clean car windows. Unfortunately, I can no longer get my hands on any of the "cleaners" we used where I worked, and some of the stuff wouldn't be practical for use on the inside of a car, as they're messy to use, and I'd have to "mask off" the dash and door panels, at least for the first cleaning.....
