That is not my TBSS, (but that IS by boat).
I looked long and hard at the TB SS, and the G8 GT/GXP.
I would own a G8 GT or GXP right now, if it were not for the sound system & HVAC controls. It's very expensive to upgrade/change that vehicle since they are all integrated from the Holden package they originated from.
The new Chevrolet "SS" sedan is a great alternative, and prices are dropping since they have been discontinued.
I also came close to buying a Mercury Marauder a few times too.
I came close to buying a TB SS several times after I sold this:
...but really wanted a truck that be could be a backup tow vehicle for my Ford PSD; AND could haul bikes in the bed. As such, I settled on an 8.1L 2500HD (MONSTER power) and a MB E-Class 4-Matic which share the daily driver duties. I have a vehicle collection problem. No, I won't go to rehab.
Hello Corvette fans. Apologies if you read this twice, I posted in "intro's" first and was advised this section might be a better place.
I am a newly registered to the forum and hope I can gather some insight, advice, and opinions on buying a corvette. I've wanted one since I was about 5, definitely been a dream of mine for some time. When I was in college I bought a new 06 Monte Carlo SS. It was good to me for a while, but it's giving me a bit of grief now and I'm not sure if I'd rather spend the money on it orcsomething else. The kid in me wants to sell it and upgrade to a C5, maybe early C6, but the responsible adult says maybe it's not the right time. *sigh*
If there's any "optimal age" I'd want to have a corvette it's definitely now, late twenties / early thirties. Maybe that's silly.
The reason I hesitate to jump into one right now are 1) I have no idea what kind of maintenance a 11-16 year old corvette would require. Is the maintenance rough? 2) My husband and I also want to start a family soon. I've read so many mixed opinions on a baby in a corvette, but I guess I'd like to hear more. Personally, I don't know if the baby in the front seat worries me too much as long as it's safe and legal, but it would also mean we could never use "my" car for trips. (Maybe I should just get my husband to upgrade his ride for trips )
Thanks in advance to anyone who wishes to chime in with their opinion.
Welcome! I just bought a C5 after wanting one my whole life. I'm in my mid 30's, and have a 3 and 4 year old. I bought a 2002 because that was the first year they made the passenger airbag cutoff. My little ones love going for rides. It's a reward I give them, and they now are able to tell me that Corvettes are better than everything. It started out as just a 3rd pleasure car (our 'family cars are a 13 Durango and 13 f150 FX4), but turned into a semi daily driver after realizing just how much fun it is to drive to work. So to answer your question, it CAN be a family car, just a very impractical one! Just make sure your car seats are secured and the airbag is turned off, and don't drive recklessly. Hope this helps and welcome!

Ha ha very cool! Could you elaborate on what you mean by airbag cut off? Do they not have a way to turn it off in pre-2002 models?
I think I've devised the plan. Luckily I have an excellent hubby who supports my weakness for corvettes. I'm sure he will share the enjoyment. We have to wait till after taxes and a few other financials are in place, but after that I think we can make a move soon on a C5 under 15K. I believe we will fix my car (tranny) and keep it. It has a decent enough backseat and could work for a family car for a while. It has a soft spot in my heart so I don't really want to get rid of it quite yet. Later, once our family develops we'll have a better understanding of what we need and want in a family car. At that point we can decide if the Monte Carlo goes and what to get in it's place.

Pre-2002 do not have an airbag shutoff. That was a requirement seeing how I couldn't wait to take my little ones cruising! Good luck with your plan!
