Default randome question..

I posted something similar in the c4 forum..

I have a random question for a project.
I'm trying to nail down when GM switched over to a u-shaped striker plate design, like this-- from my '00

I assume GM used the same striker plate in early model c5s, but can someone confirm that it used the u-shape, and not something else, like the bolt:

Right now, I'm just trying to get a rough estimate of the switch-over, and based on what the c4 guys say, looks like it happened sometime between '96 and '97.
Thanks!

edit-- and yes, I know I need to spell check the title of my posts :-(

It appears the striker design was changed in 1997. All C5s use the "U"-shaped design and when I checked the last year of the C4s, 1996, it shows the older pin (or "post") style.

thanks for the fast responses.
Another shot in the dark-- is anyone aware of ANY tool -- I don't care what it does -- that fits into that striker? I'm looking for something that is specifically designed to fit that striker design, whether it be an alignment tool, mechanic's tray, whatever. Anything will do.

There's a product advertised on TV that is designed to drop into the opening and provides a "handle" to assist people w/arthritis/elderly, etc getting out of the car. It's a one-piece unit with a 90° design. The "handle" is rubber coated.
Don't recall the name of it.

There is a product (metal rod) that's used to hold the door in the open position, when a car is on display at car shows, or when work is being done on doors, etc. It has fittings on each end that fit into, or use, the door striker/latch mechanisms as the attaching points.

Couldn't really say how early, but I know I've been seeing these things at car shows or being offered for sale for a number of years now. Maybe contacting a manufacturer or two would answer that. They may be offered by Eckler's and/or Mid America as well.
These items are generally pretty popular with the car show crowd. I've seen them on Hot Rods or Street Rods as well.
