When I picked mine up in Washington DC(I live in Va) it was on Easter weekend and I had already endured a 6 hr drive in my 1994 3000GT and decided to just buy the car without even driving it
She was just perfect in every way as far as I was concerned and the car was previously owned by the current service mgr who assured me she was in tip top shape. He told me it had the B&B Bullet exhaust on it and I said duuhh--OK.(i had no idea what he was talking about-but I soon found out). The drive home was great but I was thinking that coming from the tame exhaust note of the GT that NO WAY could I put up with all that noise!! I even thought of selling the exhaust here on the forum. Well, that was 3 years ago and now there's NO WAY that I would pull that exhaust off of my Vette. There is a little drone around 1500 RPM but I can usually work around that even with it being an automatic--but drop that baby down to 2nd and wind her out is a rush every time.
It just comes down to what YOU like and can live with--Oh, and I get compliments all the time about the sound coming out of her plus I usually have the stereo up louder than the exhaust so it evens out.
Call me crazy but I kind of like a little drone haha
What about just an aftermarket muffler and keeping stock exhaust? Any suggestions?
Others might correct me but it seems that axle back is the usual way to replace mufflers. The c5 layout is not like regular cars where you can just cut out a muffler and replace it. Im sure its been done. C5 Z06 exhausts are used a lot.

Oh okay that makes sense. Every video I've seen without mufflers it doesn't have the tips coming out the rear. Which I understand the tips are connected to the muffler but I was kind of curious if you could cut the tips off the muffler and then put a 2.5" pipe where the muffler would go and weld everything back up. Not that I would do that, it was just a curiosity thing

I put mine on the lift today to adjust the tailpipes. Here is a picture to maybe help with the layout. This is a Borla S Type cat back. It wasn't terribly difficult to go over the axle. The passenger side stock pipes were difficult, but overall took only an hour or so.

Very cool 01. I think the 01-04 is the only way to go, I miss my millennium yellow, bbk intake, shorties, magnaflow cat back. The Z51, auto was loud as hell and quick. Enjoy, if I were you I would be excited to clay, polish and wax that bad boy! Black is a great color.
