Default Good spot for hideaway key?

Any ideal spots underneath C5s for a hideaway key? (those little black magnet boxes)

I plan on daily driving mine and would like to have a backup in case I lock myself out. Thoughts/suggestions?

When it's happened to me (which it has twice in 15 years) I just call my insurance carrier and they come out and open the door for me. Personally, I wouldn't hide a operational key, in effect, if I hid one it would be without a pellet, that way anyone who found it could open the door but not start the engine.

I know this didn't answer your question, but I hope it helps.

I keep a non chip key in my wallet so I can get into the car. After leaving the keys in cars, not once, not twice, but three times I finally learned my lesson.

If you lock the car with the key fob, how do you lock the key in the car?

If I would want to hide anything on my Corvette it would be in one of the coves...use some 3M two sided tape to tape your little box to the interior wall of the cove. There is lots of room even for a mickey if one wanted...lol.

If you PM me where you keep the car most nights, I'll PM you back the very best spot to hide the key.

Keys go in your pocket when they aren't in the ignition

No. Not yet.
I did lock my keys in a car 35 years ago. From that moment on I made it a point to always use the key to lock my car and not lock the door from the inside and then shut it. Haven't locked the keys in the trunk yet. When we travel, my wife keeps the extra key fob in her purse in case I lose mine. I try to be careful because I am getting up there and I do seem to do a lot more dumb things.

I've managed to walk away after using the fob to lockup and then decide, "Gee I don't need my jacket". Pop the back of the coupe, proceed to automatically place the keys in the jacket, place the jacket in the back and shut the back. Now - I have a lock vette with the keys safely tucked away in the pocket of my jacket.

I have a 99 C5 Convert, all I do is shake my car and my fob (which is locked in the car) unlocks it for me.

Check out the Drone alarm/remote start system. It integrates with an app on your smartphone, and you don't have to worry about this.

Leaving your car for service? Lock the keys inside. When they get to your car, they call you and you unlock it for them. Same thing if you are having someone pick the car up for you; and best part, it tracks the car on the map, and keep check on speeds with a "tattle-tale" feature.

http://www.dronemobile.com/

I have it on my C5, and one of my trucks. On the truck, I have the alarm hooked up to the train horns; and I have a bunch of ways I can set/arm the system, including remote start. I do not have the remote start on my C5; I don't need it, nor did I want it on a 6-speed.

Called AAA once for a dead battery in my wifes car. It took them two hours to get there. A "hide a key" could save a lot of grief.

Inside a 1 gallon zip lock bag dropped inside the cove. No rattle, and easy to grab. Personally, I just carried a flat (non pellet) key in my wallet.
