Default New tires

Have a 2001 base coupe. Have new wheels and need tires.
New wheels: front 18x8.5 56 offset. And back 19x10. 56 offset.

Having a hard time finding tires for this setup. Local shop has
Recommended front 245/40/18 and rear 285/35/19. They can
Get continental DWS06 tires in this size. I think this will keep the proper
Stagger so as not to upset the active handling, but don't know much about the tires. Anyone run these tires??? I was thinking of front
285/30/18 and rear 305/30/19 but was told the wheels I have are not
Wide enough to run those sizes. Any thoughts???

With the 8.5" wide front wheel a 285 is way too wide. I would suggest that you spend a little time on the tire rack website. They will have tools that will indicate how wide a tire can fit on a given width of wheel.

As an aside I think that the Continental DWS is a great tire. Nitto also make very good tires for your C5.

Just a little advice. When you go to a 30 series tire, the side wall is very small. (rubber band tires) The ride is much rougher than that of a 35 or 40 series tire. If you go to tire rack.com they have a conversion tire chart and actually show you the specs to various size tires. This way you can figure out what size tire will have the same or near same overall diameter of your stock wheels/ tires. OOPs, Mr. Peabody beat me to it. LOL....
