The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

There have been many accident posts here on the forum where the damage to the car was extensive but the occupants came through just fine. The C5 really is a very safe car.

...but went back to C5, last year, for the quality of C5 and the feel of American muscle....(not to mention I had lots of new parts sitting around)
I ask about the C6 and C7 because I spoke to a Corvette shop in Tampa that makes body and mechanical repairs and they were not at all impressed with the quality of the parts and design attributes of the body of either C6 or C7 but less so with C7. When I ask them about the C5, they only made glowing statements...
...they drive C5's.
Oh and I cruise with the beach boys...

We were also able to visit the DANA Plant where they initially assembled the aluminum C6 ZO6 Frames.
WOW! I was ABSOLUTY IMPRESSED with the DANA Plant.

Very clean and up-to date.. LOTs of attention to detail! At the end of the tour there was a QUESTION & ANSWER Session.
I asked: What is the crash survivability between the STEEL C5/C6 frame compared to the C6 ZO6 aluminum frame.
The engineer had a BIG Smile on his face and stated: "The very first head on frame crash test hit the barrier, bounced off and had little damage. They designed it exactly like the C5/C6 Steel Frame.
They had to redesign it with ADDITIONAL CRUSH ZONES so the impact would be absorbed and not KILL the occupants of the vehicle.
Here is a Mag article and actual picture of that FRAME:

The actual frame in a production car has a BLACK protective coating on the aluminum frame. The SEAMS between the welded or bonded parts are also GLUED to keep water / moisture out of the joints and corroding the aluminum.
The C5 & C6 floor panels are fiberglass with an internal BALSA WOOD CORE. The C6 ZO6 floor panels are Carbon Fiber with a BALSA Wood core. VERY LIGHT and STIFF!
