I have them in all my cars. They give you velcro to mount them. I have them on the right side of the rear view mirror. In Pa cheaper to have the pass than to pay at the booth. They may work in the glove box. Traveled once with the transponder in the glove box with the intentions on not using it because of a change with my pay card. On the Pa turnpike the ticket dispenser would not give me a ticket, when i hit the call button the attendant said that the sensor knew i had a transponder in the car and would not issue me a ticket.

30 % is what I was told ???? hope to see you one of these days Frank !!!
There are some suction cup holders listed on the famous auction site that are inexpensive. Since there are several ez pass devices its best to eye ball the ones on the site for a match. I use one when needed, then pop it off and toss it in the console.
In Florida you can register many cars to one transponder with vehicle type, color and tag number, tolls can be charged to the account without it being in the car.

EZ Pass users get a discount on tolls in both Ohio and Pa.
I've only had one failure with mine shortly after I got it. I mounted it up on the windshield as suggested but I had mine aligned vertically rather than horizontally. It did not read at the Ohio toll booth and the gate did not go up even though my plate was registered. The toll worker noticed the orientation right away and said it had to be mounted 'horizontally", and yes it then worked.
Also some forget that in Ohio, even though all toll lanes are also EZ Pass lanes, the EZ Pass lanes are still gated and you must approach the gate slowly (posted 10 mph) and wait for it to lift. It makes me chuckle a bit when I see and out-of-stater blow right on up to the gate expecting it to open by the time they roar through. PA has got it right with the high speed EZ Pass lanes, and Maryland somewhat a distant second on the Bay Bridge.
Seriously though check into it, you may not need it in car at all.
sorry I didn't get to the bottom of your post
they do say it should be mounted in the car, I will most likely be taking the vette most times, twice the fun and gas mileage than the truck !!! So much for miles on the car
The last 6 years I've used my iPass and driven about 55k per year.
IL will accept the device in any car it's registered. The only toll collection system that does no recognize it is KS and their KTAG.
Mine is tucked up passenger side behind the mirror, can't see it when driving.
IN specifically wants it on the drivers side...
When I brought my car home from PA I did the hold in hand up to the windshield, it was OK but a PITA as you tend to forget. Again, I had issues in IN.
Every state is a little different in the device and the location they want it.
Note: In IL the units issued are white. I did paint my old one black as it helped hide from the outside. When it was time for a replacement I was chastised for painting the unit.
Here's a tip that might be applicable for your local area at least. In Illinois, you can go online and add vehicles to your transponder account. You provide the make/model and license plate. Then you don't need the transponder in the vehicle. As long as the plate is registered under an account, it automatically matches it. I don't even need one on my Harley or Vette.

Yes I did that but they still say the transponder should be in the vehicle ??? Might do some more looking on the web site !!
I just hold it up to the windshield whenever passing a toll...sometimes I forget and as long as its on the dash it seems to work...
I do the same thing with EZpass, use same device in multiple cars

We have all our vehicles listed on all our IL transponders.
IIRC you can get by having your car registered and not having the unit in the car, but I think you pay a higher fee.
My thin EZTag fits behind the rearview mirror and is held in place by the wiring harness. It's been there for years and never fails to read. I used the same method on my truck. On my other cars, I hold it up to the windshield while passing through the tolls. The only car I have problems with is my M3 when the hard top is installed. I believe the hard top is aluminum and something about it doesn't work well with the eztag system here.

Nope. I've had transponders since they came out and I've never seen a surcharge for tolls against the plate w/o the transponder in the vehicle. If you set up an online ipass account you can check your recent tolls to confirm. They show codes for each transaction as to where, when, the amount, and whether the transponder was read or they did a plate match. Check it out.
Mine is affixed to the windshield behind the mirror on the passenger side. Almost can't see it from the outside with the tint at the top of the windshield hiding most of it. Seriously doubt it will work in the glove box. It contains an RFID chip that the scanners above when you drive through a toll station has to be able to read.

Mine is mounted the same way. It's attached via 3M Dual-Lock which is way better than velcro. They supply replacement pieces for free in IL for another vehicle, etc..
