Started up my 98 corvette on Saturday. Battery was low. Charged it for a few minutes and fired up. A message came up and said (pull key and wait 10 seconds.) I did. 2nd message popped up and said (service column lock). Car idled fine, pull ahead engine shuts off. Repeated this 3 times. I pulled the ground off battery to reset electrical system. Same thing happened all over again. I did find out that I can back up in reverse without engine shutting off. Anybody familiar with this problem? If so what may be a solution?

As always--a low-dead battery caused the issue--if you dont drive alot--keep it on a battery maintainer--and make sure the battery is healthy to begin with
I recently had this problem but thankfully it happened while it was in a shop in Orlando FL area...
...Geoff made a simple change in the computer to prevent it from shutting off. He said it comes up from time to time...
The Pull key notice came up a dozen times and finally service column lock and then after reset it stopped popping up...
It has still popped up and a bit of a nuisance so Im glad to see AKAPOUNDER give a possible solution for both of us.
Edit:
hmmm now I wonder if this will solve my issue. My car still runs BUT I just need the display to stop showing the 2 error messages...
...any ideas????????????????????

I had messages pop up, including the column lock, bcm etc., found I had a failing and low voltage battery. Put a new battery in, no messages since. From what I've gathered, C5's are extremely sensitive to voltage issues. Best wishes!
Nope. I have been waiting for 10 minutes of clear weather since I got the car a month ago so I can install mine. I was advised when I had my Z, not to wait for messages. I ordered this one as soon as I had the car.
OK SO...... I have a 98 vert with auto trans. The column lock has been disengaged by the previous owner....SO....with that said......do I or do I not need this module??

the column lock system also limited the fuel pressure to 2 pounds that's why the car won't move !!! This was my problem the first day I bought my car and I found this forum !!! (May 2014) since that time I am amazed how many cars had/have this issue. Some think it's only a low batt issue, my car had a brand new batt installed when I picked up the car and then drove 55 miles home, so in my case it was most definitely not a low voltage issue !!!
Same thing happened to me this past weekend after install the battery and starting the car for the first time. I just removed the battery terminal waited a few minutes and then reattached. Message went away and the car ran fine.

install the LMC5 so the next time it won't happen at the worst time !!!!!
I found this forum my first day with my 99 !!!!!! Call it whatever since that first day I have spent a lot of hours here. I have learned so much from the experts and people like me who have had issues or told us how to fix and look for potential problems. Since that first day and still to this day every winter I look for some of the known problems. My car has ended up being a very good car with few problems. Still fixed things like my HVAC going dim, checked all my grounds, replaced my shifter with MGW (one of my first mods). All of you that read this do yourself a favor and spend some time here it will be worth your time for sure !!!!!!
I installed a column lock bypass about 8yr ago long before a LMC5 came about. Anybody have a comment on whether I should change out the old one for this, what I assume, is an updated version?

the by-pass will stop the column lock but not the fuel pressure limit at 2 pounds !!!! I would for less than 50 dollars install the LMC5 !!!!

Im going to have to look under the steering wheel to see if I have the old Column lock bypass device....I dont remember seeing it the last 3 times I have taken out my instrument cluster...
However, the limiter issue was resolved with a change to the computer.
That did NOT prevent the display from popping up with the 2 messages although I am able to drive without a problem.
..I'm planning on installing aluminum bezels soon so THIS TIME I'll look for the old CLB. If not there, I'll order the LMC5.
IF it is there...then I am really without a clue why the messages are still coming up.
What year is your car (no info in the post or your profile)??? If it is pre 2001 is it a manual or automatic??
..
Thank you.
Im driving a 2002 manual convertible...
I vaguely remember that the previous owner installed the CLB...
...now perhaps it is a fried. I really wasnt aware of a substitute for the old CLB device.
This afternoon I may disassemble the knee bolster and check to see if I have a CLB and if so if wire correctly and not fried.
