I've got the MGW, it's been in the car for 4 years now. Before it broke in I wasn't the biggest fan, now that it has I love it. My only grip is that Reverse takes a little more effort than I like. I've missed a couple shifts with it (my fault) but it's very precise. If possible, I'd personally see if someone local has an MGW you could try first because it is a very notchy shifter, not for everyone. I drove a C5Z with a Hurst and may have liked that more, maybe worth looking into.
I installed a shortened C6 shifter purchased off this forum. Came with an after market **** that resembles a C6, but carbon fiber look top with C5 logo, no shift pattern. Also did the anti-venom mod, using two washers on the detent on the trans. Might not be as short or quick as an after market shifter, but tons better than stock C5, smoother and have about $60.00 total investment. I do not race, just enjoy the car driving down the road. Well worth the time and $ IMO.

The Hinson Shifter. By far the best and most precise shifter on the market.
While I realize that a shifter is a very personal thing, you owe it to yourself to consider it.
Some like the stock shifter. Some like the C6Z shifter. But, if you're looking for the shifter with the best build and most precise shifts, the Hinson is the one to get. I've used all the above on the track and the street.

JMHO...
The Core Shifters, modified Hurst is a good combination of short throw without increasing shift effort.
i choose the c6 shifter because some MGW Customers complained it was hard to go from 5th to 4th gear and going into reverse. there was a very good thread about this subject before check it out : https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...6-shifter.html

The only way I see that being a possibility is because of a user install error. My MGW is flawless through the gears, and the effort is only slightly higher than stock.

i doubt thats the case, again check out the thread i posted, majority of people complain. most people had good results when going from an MGW to a c6 Shifter.

Perhaps in a single thread. The MGW is by far the most popular shifter for the C5. There's a reason for that. I can't tell you how many times I've seen people complain about it, only to realize that they botched the install. It's not rocket science, but it has to be done correctly. C6 shifter is a decent upgrade over the OEM shifter, especially for the price. It's not in the same league as the MGW though.

There is some truth to this. It depends on what version of MGW shifter you have... MGW even admits they shortened the throw too much and caused some gear engagement problems, and later changed to a more conservative design.
