Default TPMS replacement on 2000 C5

I need to replace my tire sensors and was checking prices. GM wants $205 for part #25981210. WOW give me a break. I saw amazon had different ones for around $90. Anyone know other markets to look at for better pricing.

I went the other way and converted to the '01-'04 setup about 3 years ago.

The sensors (Schrader) were about $25 each, two fobs for $13 each and the receiver for $75. It took some work, but now I have more reliable fobs and cheaper TPMS sensors.

What kind of work did that involve? And were the parts listed the only parts you needed to do that conversion? And by fobs, do you mean for keys, like locking / unlocking your doors remotely?

I followed the diy instructions in the following thread.
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...aded-tpms.html

The fobs are the ones for locking/unlocking. The receiver gets the signals from the key fobs and from the tpms, that is why all of them need to be changed if going from the '97-'00 to the '01-'04 style.

It looks harder in that thread than it really is. It took me about an hour to do the changeover.

The biggest things I found were that to get to the receiver the fiber trunk liner needs to come away from the fender. It is held on with double sided tape at the top, so you need to separate that with a knife at the top edge. It is easy, but the thread didn't really show that part too well.

The other thing was that some threads talk about the connector can be taken from a computer floppy drive. That did not work for me and I needed to get the correct connector.

A forum vendor has the whole kit.
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...rformance.html

I sourced all of the components separately and found some closeouts and sales, but I am cheap and I like to scrounge for parts.

Good luck.

I have a 99 FRC. I just order mine from Tire Rack. They will be in tomorrow for new tire install on Saturday. Schrader 28006. I was going to upgrade to the newer system but I contacted the vendor who was supplying them and was told GM is no longer making the receiving unit so I had to go with stock. Plan on activating them tomorrow prior to install.

I don't have sensors at all. When the new rims and tires were put on my 01 (bought it that way) the sensors were not put back in. I guess you don't miss something you never had.

We stated that the receiver is currently on backorder with no ETA. That does not mean GM is no longer manufacturing the part.

Have they guaranteed an ETA, and that they are definitely going to be available again? I mean, even if they do make them available again in 6 months or so, essentially those sitting here now with new wheels and tires, waiting that long might not be an option if our existing tires are done. Please advise if they have given some guidance for us sitting on the fence.

I just bought four new AC Delco #25773946 Tire Sensors for my 03
$38.58 each w/free shipping.
Total $ 154.32

I searched first and ordered these online from............Walmart ;^)
Item # 0070777331245
Arrived in less than 5 days

Installed them today and they work and look just like the ones that had died. Only negative is that they did not come with the mounting nuts which seemed odd.
