Default Custom FTI cam recommendations

I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a cam for the Z, and for my mod list/goals, I think there are 2 off the shelf FTI cams that will fit the bill quite nicely.

I was originally looking at the Streetsweeper, but I'm now leaning a bit more towards the Streetsweeper HT.

Respective specs as follows:

236/240 111LSZ .631"/.610"

228/232 111 LSA .612"/.600"

I only plan on keeping stock heads, I have all the supporting mods; Vararam B2, air bridge, XS Power 1 3/4" long tubes, ATI 10% UD Dampner, stock ti-bypass exhaust, centerforce DFX clutch, and along with the cam I will be doing LS7 lifters, Lunati dual springs/retainers/seals, ARP head bolts, new gaskets, and a melling high pressure (not the high volume) oil pump. The car also has a nitrous outlet plate kit that will see the 125 jets at most.

I want the car to retain good driveability (I don't mind idle chop, just would like to minimize low rpm surging) and be as close to the 430rwhp range on motor as possible.

In the experience of the members here, will the Streetsweeper HT fit the bill better than the original larger Streetsweeper? Thanks in advance.

I think the HT fits what you are looking for. Ed Curtis is a damn magician with cam design so good call on your choices, unfortunate he doesn't get the gobblers some of the vendors have on the forums Theres more to it than duration/lift numbers at .050...

I run the original street sweeper(with TFS as cast heads/FAST 92). 488rwhp/430rwtq. Mid-high RPM power is awesome, flat out freight trains. Plenty of grunt down low IMO, especially since my c5z weighs 3000lbs on the dot.

The only drivability issues I run into are low speed, parking lot hiccups. Little tap of clutch or throttle solves it. I could daily the car no prob. Putts at 1700rpm in 6th getting 27mpg on the freeway all day. I've had cammed cars for a while so I understood where it'd be on the 5mph stuff. Don't bother me.

I would expect the HT to not have those issues and most of the benefit of the street sweeper.

I was looking for all out mid-high power that I could drive on the street...I also spray a n2o outlet 150 plate for 1/2 mile events, fun times

Awesome reply and good honest review. I really think that is the direction I want to take, it will make strong power but still retain its fun driveability.

We used a SS HT in a stock LS2 car, it drove great. Some idle chop but driving was excellent.

Will do! I'm putting the long tubes on this weekend, and I'm going to use 06 Monte (Lew) on here for his Diablosport tuning for the LT's, drive the car for a bit in that configuration, and then do the cam install closer to when I can actually get the car on the dyno.

Lunati dual springs (73925K1)

This cam has a slightly lower rpm range than the larger original streetsweeper, so I figured the Lunati's would still fit the bill. They come recommended for this package by Ed so I should be good to go.

The retainer on that spring set is really light. It is almost like getting Ti for free from the mass perspective.

Trying to get my cam swap parts all together, and want to make sure I'm not missing anything. So far I have:

ATI Dampner (10% UD)
Proper Dayco 10% UD main serp and a/c belt
ARP head bolts
New GM metal head gaskets
LS7 lifters
Lunati dual valvesprings
Tick performance hardened 7.40" .080 pushrods
LS2 timing chain
Melling oil pump
FTI cam

Are there any more "must do's" or "while you are in there's" I should consider, aside from Mamofied AFR heads?

Thanks in advance.
