I have to admit I am seeing a trend already. I can see if I jump up in price starting at
$ 35,000 I see a LOT more very loaded pristine c6 cars. I need to post a quiry to the c6 people about how they think the cars drive but I am leaning towards a c6 only because it appears easier to find a pristine one.

There are a LOT of pristine C5 corvettes around... I would be looking for a 2003-04 with low miles and WELL maintained...
Of course it's totally your choice whether to go C6 or C5 both are great cars... good luck
I drove my friends c6 auto and compaired to my c5 with stall and gears the c6 was way more responsive and had way more low end torque. It will feel much more out of control than a c5 with cai and headers/ tune if this car evan had that much. Honestly if you thought a buick grand national was scary fast the c6 will shock you!
I have no problem with a modded car, I guess mine is now modded because of the Ti exhaust, Halltech intake and as of this coming Tuesday a street tune at ECS. But these are easily reversible.
Trouble is the car Katie drove is more of a mystery mod. With no help from the seller it's too mysterious.

Unless it was seriously cammed and stalled, I dont see how it could be scary fast?, no offense to the op meant but if a c5 that is not burning rubber and does not have drag radials so it launches real hard, feels scary fast. Im not sure why she would want a c5 let alone a c6.

Need some one with an experienced eye to take a look at the engine.
Is the air intake and throttle body stock? Manifold stock? Heads? Is there blower bolted on? Long tubes? Aftermarket balancer? I know you cant see the cam - but you can still tell most of the story.....
I did not say a Buick fm was scary fast I was discussing power delivery and how bad it was
My bad I thought you meant it seemed the same, that Buick was a 14 second quarter mile car, a stock c5 is faster, these cars are quick, c6 is quicker, compared to older cars, if you run them with tc off you will know it and you don't have to drive on the grass to figure it out, with only a little bit of power breaking you can get a stock a4 with crappy 273 gears to break loose without tc on or on dry pavement around a corner by just punching it. A stock c5 can get someone in trouble if the driver is not able to counter steer with tc off, there has been a few posted here, one was a nice vert, guy lost it and crashed into a wall leaving a cars and coffee event. I guess what I've been trying to say is all c5,s can be scary in the right situation and the fact you said you punched it in the grass makes me think you are not aware of how much torque and hp a stock c5 has or you would not of tried to see if the tc was working in that manor, I know it seems I'm beating a dead horse here but no one else seems to have picked up on exactly what you are saying. Please don't be offended, it just is not that easy to make a c5 a lot faster without a supercharger or considerable head and cam work and I think the dealer would advertise if it had the latter.
Hi there all. I used to own a 93 Ruby red and loved the car except for getting in and out of it.
I have since decided to buy a newer vet. I wanted to run this by you to see if I am crazy or reasonable.
I test drove a immaculate 2003 50 aniv convertible vet with the 50th package and every option even the cd changer. It has 21400 miles.
The only flaws I found is probably a bad tire pressure sensor (sending a code) and a warped rotor that pulsed mildly on braking.
The problem I faced was when i opened the hood the car had all this accessory crap on the engine. Chrome and crap like that. The guy at the dealer didn't point out one thing that cought my eye. It had headers on it. I asked the guy what has been done to the car. He didn't know and strangely there was all the original documentation except anything about what has been done to the car.
I still took it for a ride and I have to say it was the scariest power monster car I ever drove. My dads 98 vet is nothing like this thing. I cringe at the idea of what it would be like without the traction control.
I have owned a v-rod harley, and other fast vehicles but nothing like this thing.
The biggest issue I had was with the convertible top up the borla exaust at times would make a bad noise in the cab and your ears would hurt.
I took the car back and told the guy I wanted a car to drive as a normal car and since there was no paperwork to explain what was done to this thing I cant see buying it.
Otherwise I would have brought it on the spot.
Am I making sense... Or is adding headers and whatever else common and secondly I would want quieter exhaust..........
Oh and the price was around 26500 dollars which was high but as I said the car was about as close to showroom new as one can get.
IDK why you think the motor is modified based on the sound of the exhaust. The most common LS mod would be cam- which would be obvious by the sound and then maybe heads. Sounds more like someone just slapped a ****** redneck exhaust on it behind the headers. Maybe deleted the mufflers or something. Headers themselves aren't an indication of internal motor modifications.
Comparing that car to a 93 or even a 98 - which you don't specify transmission type or even gearing (which there are auto ls corvettes with such ****** gearing they can't even spin the tires) - means nothing really.
I would suggest you take a step back and define what you want (C5 or C6), what our budget is, and what your goals for your corvette will be. Those things alone will help you on your search. With the 50th vette....if you really like it I would research it thoroughly: inspected at a shop, car fax, gm oasis, try to contact previous owner for more info, etc. and get the price down.
Modded or not modded is up to your comfort level. I have bought stock and modded cars before. Honestly....if you plan to mod it anyway and you can find something w some tasteful mods or things you would have done anyway and everything else is to your liking...then I wouldn't be scared to buy modded.
If you look thru the f/s sections here....you can get a lot of vette for your $$$. You can easily find s/c, tt, all motor vettes....etc for the kinda $$$ you are talking about.
Take your time....drive some more vettes and keep researching and using this forum as a sounding board. We are here to help.

Good point
For what it's worth when we bought our 04 6spd Vert at a Dealership in Wichita Ks... They would not give me the contact information on the previous owner... BUT they contacted him for me and found out the information that I was curious about... you might try that if you have questions... just keep tracking down the previous owner till you find out who, what , when, and where....

Did you get a carfax or Carchex on the car? The modded one I drove on Long Island had one that was accessible and I got the name of the mechanic who serviced it for years.
Did a Carfax. Showed nothing of any significance. DID NOT go into details about any mods.

PS to the previous post I believe I have defined what I want more than once here. I want a reasonably comfortable car that is reliable, gets reasonable gas millage, and looks nice. It could be a c5 c6 or c7
