I have a Blackwing. I like the quality and fit and the look of it under my hood. It is an easy install and looks like it belongs there. I would think it offers some performance benefit and of all the A/M filters it fits the best and is probably the best at filtering. Keeping the stock filter box and drilling holes in the lid or modifying a 2002-2004 Z06 lid for it, then adding a Donaldson or K&N panel filter is fine as well. These A/M filters are great at one thing, making the people who produce them and sell them very wealthy.
Yep, they benefit from our pocketbooks much more than we benefit from the small gains. Good tunes, cams,injectors, gears, blowers, heads, headers and on back to cat backs will make the real performance differences, and may well then require or be enhanced with the MAFs and cold air intakes. Doing a BW or MAF first is a backward approach to any noticeable power gain.
Even with our old 85 stock hp flathead Fords we knew to first cam, bore and stroke them, port and polish, shave the heads and go to 4.11 rear gears to get any real benefit of added dual point ignition, dual carbs and dual exhausts. Real power gains on engines rated at 1hp per 1 ci like ours costs real money. No shortcuts.

This is my 3rd C5 and I have tried different intakes and by far my favorite is the Blackwing! It looks like a factory part under your hood, very easy to install! I have headers and many other upgrades so to me it makes a big difference!
It is a great quality piece and I think you will like how it's going to look under your hood!
