Just look. You can see the rear ones through the wheel without even bending over. I think the '03 has metal ones.
If you have the metal ones, then there is no need to replace them to use the new bars. If they are damaged or worn out (making noise or loose in the swivel ends), then you should replace them. Although I hear some people post about bad ends, I have not seen any problems with mine even with a lot of miles, I don't feel they wear out that frequently.
