Noticed this morning that the "mode" button isn't lit up. I suspect there's a bulb gone, but wanted to ask someone who's either had it apart or can take a look next time they have their lights on to make sure its not just dark by design and I've just never noticed.

Unit is not hard to take apart. Do you have a manual or dual control unit?
Not sure about the manual but some of the ones in the dual unit are supposed to be LEDs. Have not looked at them myself when I fixed the dim display. I so have bulb P/Ns if you want to DIY. They are soldered in.

Mr. Sam
It's the dual control. Looks relatively easy to get in and out, but I probably won't attempt the soldering. I may check into a refurbished controller.
The soldering is easy. And if you goof you can easily remove the solder and try again. Check out youtube for how to solder info.
I had my "Auto" button light go out on my dual climate controls. It's not hard to remove the control unit and take it apart, all you need is basic hand tools (and you have to take apart the center console, which isn't hard either). Open up the unit and see what the bulbs look like. Take it with you to Radio Shack, that's where I got my replacement bulb. Solder it in and test it out, you'll be good after that! Mine's been good for the past year and the brightness matches the stock lights perfectly. You would never know it's been apart.

Reason: .
I've got a couple of bulbs behind the buttons and the temp adjust wheel that are gone, and I wish I noticed prior to fixing the dim display issue so I could have taken care of this at the same time.
The one common thing I've seen is, while it's not hard to do, if you are going to do it, go ahead and change ALL 14 or so of the lights at the same time. I've read a few posts a ways back when someone repairs the burnt out ones, only to have another burn out a short time later. While you have it apart, might as well just do them all.
Do you still have the bulb P/Ns? Looks like I will replacing some bulbs.

If you aren't interested in doing it yourself, this is a good time to start an LED upgrade. There are a handful of vendors that will swap out the stock bulbs for LEDs for around $150. With that you can also get kits for changing out the DIC and door controllers. Gives a nice look. And if you go that far (since you'll have the gauge cluster out...) you could add a nice set of gauge bezel trim rings...
