Default Clutch

Why is my clutch slow to release after I go through the gears hard? It's only when I get on it. Normal driving it's fine. This just started. I have a 2000'C5 with 67k.

TIA!!!

Poor design of the hydraulic system.Google search the Ranger procedure about your fluid condition, what causes it and how to minimize the effects.

:agree: The fluid needs to be changed. The Ranger method is the way to go.

A few years ago, it was reported that CLUTCH DUST gets "INTO THE CLUTCH HYDRAULIC SYSTEM"

WTF?? How can that happen???? Its a DAMN SEALED SYSTEM!

Well,,,,,,,,,,,,,, after doubting that theory, My 02 ZO6 clutch started sticking to the floor after I did a heads / cam / FAST90 Horse Power infusion!

I purchased a SPEC Twin disk set up, and ALL NEW Clutch parts to resolve it. New Master Cylinder, Slave, pilot bearing, throw out bearing and added a remote bleeder kit.

I ALWAYS take my old broken / worn out stuff apart to see WHY it fails/wears out.

HOLY CRAP. Sure as hell, the slave cylinder was PACKED with clutch dust slime and the master cylinder had a large amount of the same clutch dust slime in it. Its a nasty gritty black slime.

The Slave Cylinder hydraulic piston seal does a great job keeping the hydraulic fluid inside the system BUT, it does a VERY POOR JOB keeping the clutch disk cast off dust out of the system.

When the piston moves IN & OUT over the slave cylinder sealing surface, it moves over any of the micro fine dust particles on the slave cylinder shaft and the seal does NOT keep it out of the system.

If you are NOT religiously flushing the clutch hydraulic system, its going to get contaminated dust and full of slime.

Our clutch hydraulic system has OEM engineered restrictions in the system to PREVENT ABUSE. If you side step the clutch peddle, the restrictions help prevent violent clutch engagement and drive train damage.

If your clutch fluid is contaminated and 3 times thicker than clean fluid, its NOT going to work like a clutch should.

I had to see it to believe it.

Because people never service the clutch fluid, you might as well start prepping for a clutch replacement with hydraulics. Flushing it good 5-6 times will help it a while.

FYI Autozone sells the factory replacement Valeo clutch for about $450 with the flywheel.

I change my fluid every time I change the oil, suck it out with a turkey baster and pour in new.
