When they came to Chicago they got a permit to use a public road just outside of Route 66 drag way. The road was filled with rented lighting, an ambulance, and plenty of staff. It's FAR from your traditional local street racing spot where somebody see's the cops and everybody runs to their cars. Lol. In Chicago your car can be towed just for watching. Impounded for racing.
How can a guy that installs garage doors for a living afford to build a race car like that and be able to drop $1000 - $2000 on a race???? Man,,, I MUST be doing something really wrong!
The show MUST be paying a LOT of the BILLS and directing a LOT of the outcome.
I like the show a lot but,,, some of the race cars and engine that they have DONT SEEM LIKE THEY FIT THE "OWNERS BUDGETS" Must have a TON of sponsor ships or show pitch in money.
I worked in a factory, in a technical position, most of my adult life, beginning as a "work/college co-op" at the age of 19. Worked MUCHO overtime, made some pretty good money. Was an oval track fan all of my life.
Back in the 80s, an equally employed and equally enthused oval track fan, who was a good friend of mine, got together with me, and we tried to fund and race an oval track car.
That went over well...............
So yeah, I can't comprehend how these "outlaw drag racers" fund their operations. There might be TV money, but I'm pretty sure they were doing this before Reality TV found them. I seem to recall on one episode, one of the guys needed an "emergency freshening-up" of his engine, for a race that was scheduled for 2-3 days later. The engine builder laid a $15,000 bill on him, and he didn't even flinch.....
In the early episodes one of them would be sitting on a stool with a red C5 behind them - I posted a query onto their Facebook page about that one but never heard back.
Seems that Daddy Dave is a driver - witness the fate of the Sonoma without him behind the wheel. Kye Kelly seems to be in his same league....
Had them come over when I pulled up to get gas. All of them were in Street Outlaw shirts. They were pulling a black camaro on a car hauling trailer and it wasn't a street car...it was a big tire drag strip car. I don't watch the show and didn't get names but they were all over my C5.
