Default Cleaning Windshield Wiper Udders?

I got caught in the middle of a rainstorm tonight and when I got home I went to cut off my wipers but they wouldn't sit all the way down. The wipers work fine, but when they stop, they stop pointing straight up instead of laying down. I searched the forum and it appears I may need to clean the "udders". What do I need to remove to access these? (also, apparently the udders get filled quickly with water and debris and need regular cleaning so this is something everybody should consider)

I searched the forum and read all about how beneficial cleaning the udders is, but none of the threads show precisely how to access them. I opened up the hood and couldn't see them.

Once the udders are cleaned out you need to get the wiper motor dried out and hopefully it will operate again once dry......
Appreciate the links. I just cleaned my driver side udders (3 rubber pieces). They were pretty easy to pull out and clean (although the 3rd farthest back is pretty difficult to reach). Unfortunately, they weren't that clogged so I'm not sure where that leaves me as far as diagnosis goes. Bad wiper motor? Or can something just be reset? As I said previously, the wipers run fine, just all of a sudden won't stop/rest in the down position.

Maybe once the motor dries it'll work properly as 8Vette7 mentioned above. Here's a pic of how they sit once I turn them off.

If they are consistently stopping straight up and wipers work on all speeds correct I'd bet its the gold 3 layer cam that connects motor to transmission arm.

That button should slide out of the slot when off, if it is still in the slot when off that's the run position. Can try cleaning all the springs, etc...and lubing.

Mine still gets stuck in run occasionally, al little wd40 and nudge on button gets it to park on next cycle.

Plenty of used transmission arms with the cam but assume they have same issue, mine looks great, not bent, etc... just a poor design, new ones are like $400...

P.S. as others have suggested might want to clip the bottom of the udders to enlarge the opening....doubt anything will crawl up in there that would be the only downside, improves drainage.

Been messing with it all morning and still no progress. Every now and then the wipers will park properly. The last time it did this, I just left it there so I can at least drive without wipers sticking up. I'm not really sure what to do about it. Is there a package that comes with everything, new motor, new circuit board, new transmission arm?

Very discouraged.

above is correct park position

above is correct run position.

Take a look at pics when they are parked up is the button in the slot or out? THe first pic with button out of slot is the correct park position. the second with button in slot is the run position.

If it is coming out of the slot when parking up you need to adjust tightening down the screw in center of cam to wiper motor search for innerwipe procedure, also on you tube of gm wipers.

The circuit board is park of the wiper motor - if you got all speeds, delay and off working correctly its not the motor.

The gold cam thingy is the keep to parking down, make sure the button slides out of the spot when off not stuck in the run position. That is all one piece with the transmission arms plenty for sale used but might still stick, new is about $400.

Mine still occasionally sticks in the run position but is adjusted correctly, a little wd40 and sliding the button up and down in the slot to unstick will fix for me on the next wiper cycle.

Cleaning the udders is essentially like trying to steal candy from the vending machine.

You cant see where you're reaching, your hand is probably going to get stuck, but if you do it just right there's always a surprise awaiting you. Unfortunately in this case it's usually just dead bugs and leaves that have been repeatedly cooked by the heat of the engine bay. Not tasty.

if you take off the wipers and take off the plastic tray easier to get in there, can take them out completely, reinstall, run some water down them make sure they drain.

Make sure the 3rd under the battery is seated properly so that nothing gets on the computer.

I snipped the tips for better flow less likely to clog.
