Have any of you cleared your under hood pad ??? My dirt road is starting to get mine a lighter shade !!!!! not acceptable Also if you have what did you use ??? I'm thinking urethane ????
Mine had developed a white ring around the edges . Sprayed it with No Touch tire cleaner , next day it looked like new . That stuff works great on plastic too , sprayed the engine compartment and the wheel wells . I see that it also comes in wet look now .
On my old Grand Am the hood pad was getting white due to salt and stuff from the road. I hosed it off to clean it good and used some black spray paint. It worked pretty well but I'm not sure if that's the route you'd want to take.
Mine is off now. I sprayed it with tire foam and let it sit, then gently wiped with a wet sponge and let it dry and then spray painted it with high heat flat black paint. I'm about 1/2 done painting the C5 emblem and it looks good so far. It's very time consuming to do it right....
Maybe treat it with some water proofing spray... like the old tent water proofing stuff we used to use... whatever you find that works will be awesome cause then I can do mine too
Talked to a guy he said the factory pad has fire retardant in it, designed to save the hood and smother the motor in the event of a blaze. Also he said even the factory pins are important as they melt quick to drop the pad...
Well I don't know if this is a true story or not ??
My under hood pad is ancient and the light socket is shot but at least it's intact with factory pins.
