Unsure how mufflers could get one better mileage. Worse sure (mashing it more?).
The first couple weeks after I had it installed I was probably mashing it more. After that drove the car as I had with the stock exhaust. Took numerous long trips with mostly interstate driving. One was 1500 miles that I had done numerous times when the car had the stock exhaust. I was surprised to see my mileage decrease with the Corsa exhaust. I specifically checked my mileage on these longer trips because Corsa claimed 2-3 mpg increase with their exhaust system (x-pipe and axle back exhaust).
I had purchased the Corsa Xtreme with the Corsa xpipe and was very disappointed with the sound (not much louder than stock in my opinion). When I installed the Kooks headers and high flow cats that changed everything. Just love the sound on a cold startup and WOT.
Can't understand why so many focus on the fuel efficiency of these cars. For most they are infrequently driven toys. Even if the Corsa gained 2 MPG it would take years and years to amortize the cost of a Corsa system at 2 MPG.
I never bought my vette for fuel efficiency or focus on it. But when a company claims better mpg with their exhaust system (x-pipe and axle back exhaust system) I wanted to verify the numbers. Never happened in my case. After the Corsa system had been installed 6 months (I would think proper time for break in period), I took a 1500 mile road trip that I had done numerous times with the stock exhaust. I always averaged 29 mpg on that trip with my stock exhaust. With the Corsa's I averaged 27 mpg. That was only one example. Consistently averaged 2 mpg less with the Corsa system. What I was really disappointed in was the sound. Not much different than the stock that came on my car. Yes it sounded better at WOT, but who drives their car at WOT all the time. Lessened learned for me and won't be wasting $1400 ever again. As I say "each to his own".
I just installed a new Corsa sport also Known as pace car exhaust. I am surprised how quiet it is thought it would be louder. I replaced my Mid America Quad Qruiser Exhaust with the sport and the Quad Qruiser is actually louder. Do you think the exhaust will be a little louder after a few miles? Stock cats X pipe, no headers or cam, Vararam intake.
Picked mine up last year and installed on Z06. It was certainly louder than stock TI, however did have the motor boat sound at idle and crackle on down shifts. Found an X pipe and took out my H pipe. Helped with the motor boat aspect, however disappointed with overall sound level. Lesson learned should have just left it alone. When you do get into WOT it is close in sound to the original TI. Hope this helps.
I put the extreme on mine and it was still quiet. After 5000 miles tho its gotten very loud. Sounds like explosions when i first start it cold and under a bridge if i pin it, absolutley roars. I bet your sport will get much better. I predict if i go with headers, ill need the sport to quiet it down. I daily drive my 99 coupe. Stock manifolds, no cats, xpipe and extreme is a neat setup.

Do you get a gas smell with no cats? I have heard this can be a problem. [Oh no here come the cat jokes.] lol Do you get any codes?
I had the sports on my C5 with the LG super pro headers/x pipe and thought it was extremely quiet. Although, once I added the cam, I would have traded to the touring bc it became way to loud.
I LOVE threads like this.
As I'm Old, Retired, and POOR (LOL)
I try to make every use of every penny when it comes to 'upgrades'.
Threads like this educated me on the 1998 Indy Pace Car Exhaust by Corsa.
Found one and bought it for a great price.
Even came with the original shipping box.
The SOUND is Excellent. Idle is SWEET. No Highway Drone. WOT is a SCREAM.
Just scored a set of Kooks L.T. headers with the 3" Mid pipe with newly replaced high flow cats.
Can't wait for them to arrive.
Bought the last from a member here on the forum...

To answer your original question, yes, most exhaust systems can take up to 1000 miles or more before the muffler packing material become heat cycled, and usually get a bit louder over this period. We would recommend waiting until you have had the exhaust for a while before modding other components for more volume. After break-in, there's a chance the sound may be perfect for you.

Many years ago I purchased the Corsa Touring exhaust. I heard (and confirmed) they were a little on the quiet side. Then I upgraded to a H/C package with American Racing headers. The sound @ Idle has a nice deep "lope" to it.
I have been told by several folks at the race track that my car sounds like a NASCAR (when I'm passing them. ) @ WOT.
I am in Marion IL. I think I am going to wait and give it a chance to break in.
As far as I know there's no packing or anything in a Corsa system that changes condition that gives any change in sound over time. I'm mostly sure they are just tuned chambers. If you want more sound, get some long tube headers and an X pipe. You'll be happy then. I have 1-7/8" long tubes with x pipe (no cats) and its loud as hell.
This thread really got me thinking. I was considering replacing my TI's with either the sport or extreme but now I am thinking to go with Headers first, get the benefit of the additional HP and then make a decision on replacing the exhaust (or not). I have a vert so I don't want it too loud but am wanting more then the current setup.
