Sure this has been asked numerous times, but oh well.... How fast have you guys been in your C5's/Z06's:smash:?? And any other Speed demons you want to mention:D. :seeya
I drove the Z for the better part of 20 miles at top speed (about 178). I live in the super boonies where those kind of runs are possible without endangering others. Man does that sucker roar at that speed.
My top speed on my 2002 Yamaha YZF-R1 is about 10 mph less.
I've been to the stock rev limiter of 6600 rpms in 5th 3 times. It is at about 177 mph. I've since raised the limiter to 6800 so a little over 180 should be next. :chevy
160 mph (258 kph) on a suitable country road. The scenery goes by REAL fast at that speed. It takes a very long time to brake at that speed and 100 mph feels like 15 mph after that. :jester :jester
Near Temple, TX, in August, with only a couple of miles of straight and gentle hills, 138MPH. I would have gone faster, but I had a passenger. The worst thing I ever did was drive 100 in a 35MPH zone. The car accelerates and stops so fast, that it is easy to have fun in six blocks (that's two quarter miles giving you one to accelerate and one to slow to the speed limit. You don't need much of a straight to get the blood flowing real good!
It's common sense, but drive your road a couple of times at lower speeds to make sure there are no dips, holes, bumps, wet spots, or tire ruts (which can jerk the car sideways real fast) or other surprises. Make sure the edge of the road is in good shape with flat areas (no ditches) on both sides of the road in case you blow a tire or go off the road for some reason. Make your run down the middle to give yourself more margin for error. Make sure you are not endangering other drivers. In my opinion, the least of your worries is getting caught; your life and physical safety is the most important. And finally, make sure your car is in top mechanical conditon, especially your tires and brakes. Driving this car fast is quite safe as long as you use your common sense. It really does not get fun until you get above about 100 MPH. If you don't drive fast, on occasion, why in the world did you buy it in the first place??? :smash: :blueangel:
I know! I know!
It's unimpressive but here it is: 120 in my CrossFire 84 Vette.
There's more above 120 but I don't think much more.
Also 120 in my 91 Coupe.
Z06 hasn't seen past 70 yet.
Here's my PERSONAL top speed:
Mach .82 at 41,000 feet. That's around 621 MPH in a LearJet 25 I drove around for about three years.
The wind noise is not bad at all at this speed. :) :) :)
Been between 170-175:eek: in a '93 RT/10 Viper with windows, top, and the rear glass removed:crazy:. Windy is an understatement. But now that i think about it, i was having too much fun to worry about the wind ;) .
168 in my crusty old '87. ;) Still pulling strong. Keep running out of room and/or coming up on traffic. Stupid crappy New Enland highways........ grumble grumble....
152 here. Passing a Mustang Cobra. Err..having passed a Mustang Cobra, ok...why past a Mustang Cobra. What I thought was cool, was the dyno for 4th gear was about 140...and about the same on the street. Real low drag.
A shade over 170. Last I saw on the speedo was 170 and I stayed on it another 4 or 5 seconds so I'd guess probably 172ish. :yesnod: There are times it's been scary hitting 140 because of the conditions, but going 170 was really pretty uneventful.
