Get this fact, 10 million man hours in the design department (4 million on the engine alone) has to have results! And to think it has anything incommon with the C5? Still people complain about tail lights and paint work. No making everyone happy. I would take a C7 in a heart beat but for the cost. Best enjoy the tail lights because that is all I will see! lol
We have several in our club and yes they are awesome cars. I drove a 2016 home from Carlisle last August and had a blast while my buddy tried to get some shut-eye on the way home. Haa. Anyhow, the quantum leap from 75mph to 125 is phenominal.

I guess it just depends which way you look at it... the op had an encounter on the street like most of us do so that's how we would test each other... not everyone has the time or can afford to pack up and go to the nuburgring to show off their lap times every time someone opens their mouth... me and most others I know would just go around the corner and settle it there... I am just personally not a fan of the c7 in any way... they may be a better car on paper but I don't like the looks, the tech, really nothing about them gets my attention so if I can pull away from one in a straight line that's good enough for me

I'm not quite so totalitarian about my opinion. I really don't like the looks, but I respect the fact that it is a kick-azz car. Ok, so GM hired a bunch of nerd 20 year old transformers fans to design the outside. Fine. At least they didn't let those ++++wads get ahold of the suspension and driveline, nor the interior. There are some very virtuous parts of the car independent of the body. And while I don't like it, I see the family heritage and have to admit it is still quite recognizable as a Vette. I just wish I wasn't convinced I'd need a tetanus shot after washing the sharp edges on one.
If the C7 runs a very short production life it is likely I will never own one. If they continue with the current car though, I suspect I'll have to let it grow on me because there's not that many other choices I would like. Aston Martin will continue to be out of my price range, same goes for Jag. I damn sure won't buy a Dodge or Stang. So for me, next up will be a used C6, a new C7 or used Aston/Jag, possibly an Audi.
But I won't let a vehement hate for the C7 consume me and brainwash myself into thinking I could never own one. I really do like most of it.
There really is no comparison between the two , the c7 is light years ahead of of c5 in every way, it's a high 10 second quarter mile car in the hands of a good driver and the c5s are high 12s at best. Moddin a c5 to 700 hp would still not compare as a c7 can make that power with minor bolt ones. Sorry guys but we are driving at least 12 year old technology and there is no comparison. Go drive one and see for yourself.
Hmm... wasn't a C7 that won the Optima Ultimate Car Challenge the last two years in a row... what was it? A C5! Whaaat a C5... YUP
There is not ONE thing about a C7 that would make me want to own one...other than it is a corvette. I would pick it over a C4 but that's about it...
The C5 came out in 1997 - that's 19 years ago. If the C7 is not insanely, drastically better, someone failed miserably. And it reality, it is not - it's just a development with the same basic architecture. Not mid engined, not AWD, not even a "real" transaxle, still the same cost cutting approach of an off the shelf gearbox bolted to a diff that the C5 has.
So, would I buy one? No. Could I? Yes. So why not? Mainly because I think they look like they escaped from a video game - not my scene at all. Plus, I don't want a pile of in car electronics. My experience of owning my '98 C5 from new tells me that the most likely things to go wrong on your Chevy are the electronics - and the more electronics you have, the more problems you will see. I can just see this forum in a few years time with C7 owners bemoaning that their magic electronic diff, or their video game dash panel bit the dust and the replacement cost is $$$$$. Also, I don't want a pile of driver's aids - I want to drive the car, I don't want the car to drive me.
Non C7 owners who say they don't like the C7 I believe are in the minority. I was the proud owner of a C6 Vert and loved that car and still think they are awesome and I got lots of compliments about it. But my C7 is superior in every way than it was. The compliments I get every time I drive it always brings a smile to my face and I politely say thank you. You don't have to like the car but the masses do. Enjoy your vette but quite knocking those of us who like our C7's.

I think the C7 is a very sharp car from many angles, so long as the rear lights don't get in the picture. Yes, that's enough to ruin the design IMO. Yes, I also think they're a bit over done for my taste. No, I couldn't afford one even if I could see past the back end.
This is the C5 forum... anyone saying they don't like the C7 for whatever reason don't seem to be knocking the owners, just the car.
... and a whole lot cheaper than the $112,000 price tag of a SC C7 Z06! Not to mention a whole lot more fun...
The C5Z listed for $48,055 in 2001. Adjusted for inflation, that would be $65,186.57 in 2016 dollars. The 2016 C7Z starts at $79,400. You don't think the C7Z is $14k better than the C5Z? If not, you're crazy!
