The C5Z listed for $48,055 in 2001. Adjusted for inflation, that would be $65,186.57 in 2016 dollars. The 2016 C7Z starts at $79,400. You don't think the C7Z is $14k better than the C5Z? If not, you're crazy!
... and using your percentages and rolling forward.... the SC C7z (not the base Z model) would cost $487,000 and change going forward. And you would still end up with a Euro trash design which will never be considered a true representative of America's sports car... sorry but your the crazy one!

Well for 4X what we paid it should be but I don't even want to know how quick those really are. Not sure I have ever seen one out here. However, gotta wonder if some of the guys with their modded beasts are close (in numbers anyway).... Me too for the "old guy muscle car part" I'm a GTO guy from way back... Can't afford the dang things anymore....
I paid 40k for my 1999 base Corvette coupe in the summer of 2000 and it was used! They were hot back then. You can get into a NEW base Z06 for about 76k, less than 2x as much and not accounting for inflation. Today's Vette is a better deal than it was 16 years ago.

Lol what?
Do you understand what inflation is or do you just hate the C7 so much that you're willing to look like a complete fool to bash it?
Sorry to burst your bubble, but the C7 is still very American and catching up to some of the "euro trash" cars you so lovingly describe.
Now go have a Pabst Blue Ribbon and feel better about yourself.

Holy crap! I got my Z in '03 with 300 miles on the ODO for $38k. It was a repo that got garaged in the Montana hills to hide from the repo man. Perfectly flawless, with all the original papers/video, etc. Of course, a lot of things can change in the economy in 3 years.
PS- to 01Z, that was a great video, and more impressive since you had to pedal the car until 3rd gear, and then you just flew by the C7Z.
I have been in both a base c7 and ZO6. I personally loved both the cars. The ZO6 was a very fast and smooth driving vehicle.
I am not a street racer or do I go to the tracks. I just love the feeling you get when driving a Corvette.
I would love to have a new C7, but there a lot of other more important things in my life at this time. I will stick with my C5 and just enjoy it. It does say Corvette on the back the last time I Looked.
I've driven my C5 and a friends 2016 Z06 back to back. Now the fastest car I've driven up to that point was a modded WRX, still about 1/2 the power of the Z.
I was blown away at how civil the Z was, no fuss in putting power down. That being said, I only put it all the way down in 3rd going 80, didn't want to risk going in circles in a car that's not mine. Still, I was expecting more to it...
At the end of the day, both me and my friend agreed that we would take the C5 steering rack, and just about everything else from the C7.

Interesting. You are not as happy with the electric steering?
Since we are arguing about C5 vs. C7 here. I've been faced with a future problem. My neighbor wants to sell me his 2015 C7 base model in about 2 more years, in the correct color and M7. He DDs his car to downtown Atlanta, so it will have ~100K miles on it. Still, he knows nothing about cars and has more money than he knows what to do with, so the dealer fixes everything that they want to.
I will be able to buy it for significantly less than it is worth at the time, but I doubt I'll want to have two newer model vettes.
So I look at my 465 RWHP C5 with low miles that is freaking pristine, or a daily driven through the guts of Atlanta stock C7 with miles galore.......... I could feel good ragging the C7 at the track, but I am afraid to see how the C5 will put up to the WOT abuse........
Years away, but I can honestly say, I don't know what the answer is.
I have time to decide, but the only thing I know is that is a hard decision.

Obvious answer is to have the best of both worlds.
Seriously though, have both of them for at least six months and then decide which one to keep. I did this with two similar cars recently and ended up selling the newer one because it just didn't click with me like the older one did.

Wait, this makes sense. I had a similar issue with guitars. I wanted a new KOA model soooooo bad, and I agreed to get rid of trusty. i bought the new guitar and it just won't sing right for me. Good thing I didn't do anything foolish like get rid of trusty first.

I haven't driven a car with an electric rack that I liked. At speed its not as bad, but driving around at DD speeds its really annoying to me. Maybe I just got so used to the road chatter with hydraulics that it feels like something is missing when you can feel the bumps with your body but not your wheel..
There are a couple of C7Zs around here and I keep hoping one will jump on my little C5
Keep hoping Ill run into one in my lowly el camino see how I stack up against that "10 sec car". If hes an auto from a dig Im done have to leave some bait. Love running stuff faster than mine
They are awesome cars for what they can do. Other than that not interested. Unless new for $20k something my poor broke azz could scrape up
I remember running my 1990Z up against a then new C6Z06, well not much of a race lol. 2nd gear he disappeared as expected
Somewhere out theres an M5 F10 Dinan tuned owner that remembers my grille.
I took the route of building the C5... I believe I would prefer the more-so raw driving experience vs the smooth version in the C7.
I don't expect to beat one in a straight or the corners... or even pullin da eyeballz... but I expect to have a lot more fun.
How much money do u have ThTs wht it boils down to
Just hoping this 427 LS3 is going to be as fun as I'm hoping.
u will trust me ! Its too much unless u have sticky tires

mod the c5 to the same level or more, I bet that would surprise the c7 guys... a lot of the ones I've ran into seem to think they are superior just because they have a new and expensive car
Yes, they are very quick right off the showroom floor. I really like my C5, but sure wouldn't complain if a C7 Z06 (or even a base C7) was sitting in my garage. There is just this little problem of the price of admission.
Bought a new '69 Roadrunner when I got home from Vietnam. I sold my highly modded M6 C5 (had it for nearly 16 years) a year ago and ordered a 2016 Z06. There is no comparison. The Z06 is light years ahead of my C5. I went with the A8 and love it. The Z is wicked fast and is an unbelievable car to drive. I put so much into my C5 and really thought I'd miss it, but I have absolutely no regrets about getting my Z06.
I agree the C-7 Z is super fast for $85,000 + should be fast and the just a pain old C-7 is years ahead for my old 04 Z-16 but till one out runs me on the track keeping my old soon to be 13 year old C-5 Z . Rebuilt stock sup. with 525 HP.. I can pull them in the 5-6 car lengths on long run either the 04 was way ahead of its time ,that must be it.. to be honest I am surprised that the C-7 is not a better handling Corvette and am also very surprised that my old C-5 can out run them on the track not be much but still . I really don't get it but is fun to see there faces in the pits and sorry to say a few sold there C-7 after I out ran them .O-WELL, yes me and my old Z-16 having fun..
I'd take the C7Z over my mostly stock C5 FRC. First, I love the looks of the C7Z, even the taillights, I really don't get why everyone whines about them. Maybe it's because I'm one of those young whipper-snappers that like aggressive, edgier designs. Second, the handling of the C7Z I drove was amazing, not to mention the braking with the carbon brakes and the ride quality with their MR dampers. I was a little underwhelmed with the power and disappointed with the A8 but the comfort, interior design, interior built quality and materials were far above that of a C5.
There's not only the better performance of the C7 but C5s are getting old. Roofs are leaking, EBCMs are failing, bushings are getting soft. Unless you completely rebuild a C5 from the ground up, why wouldn't you take a C7? Now, I do agree the price tag is pretty steep for the Z06 especially with all the track issues they seem to have off the showroom floor, but a base C7 will probably be my next car.
