So you only watch for brake lights to let you know when to slow down? Or do you watch traffic and other cars start to slow down before they even hit their brakes. Not all blackout kits are the same. Some are very transparent and easily to see. Plus if you have led's it will be even easier to see. Just because you have blackout lights does not mean you will get in a accident. You should know this. you have 3 million miles of accident free miles im sure you encountered more than one car with black out lights.
OP this is the kit I used, i used them with my stock tail lights and now my new led halo lights

85% of all accidents are caused by distracted drivers(look it
up) I worry more about texting, reading books or such, makeup or shaving, eating, or a real big factor is how many don't know how to drive ????

Anything done to hinder the visibility of those behind you to see your brake lights light up is not a good thing IMO. I would never darken my tail lights, because I don't want to increase the risk that someone behind me may not notice them lighting up and possibly rear-ending me (the liability issue aside, it's still a wreck I don't want to have to deal with). Having said that though, if someone chooses to darken their tail lights, that's their decision, and they'll have to live with the consequences should something bad happen because of it (or that it was a contributing factor).
Well said. And that is why I installed LED halo taillights on my car - they are much brighter than the stock ones.
Most state laws specify a distance from which brake lights must be plainly visible, day or night. As far as I know the color emitted must be red. In Alabama that distance is 500'. If your taillights/brake lights do that, tinted or not, then you're complying with the law, if not, then you're in violation.

Love the led brake lights on my Bmw. They are bright as can be during the day. Turn signals are led too, but not sure how those look as I've never used them.
Have you (or anyone else for that matter) seen tinted or darkened red lights at any intersection traffic signal? If you have, then please tell me where you've seen them.
If you want to use that logic, how do you see out of tinted windows? When i look into my rear view or side mirrors i can still see out of my tinted windows just fine. You are going to have to try a little better than that to make a valid point.
Jesus christ. Some of you guys are getting way too uptight.
Just do it yourself. Get some VHT Nightshades, and do a light level 1 tint. Simple quick coat and then call it a day. Plenty visible during the day, and enough to blend some of the bright red and tone it down a notch. Still makes your reds plenty visible during the day.
Just go light and don't soak them like the other idiots on the road who feel the need to basically dunk their tails in a vat of solid black paint.
Black out your tail lites so some idiot with a car full of kids doesn't see your break lots be couse he or she was distracted by for what ever reson be it a phone, kid, radeo.and just couldn't see the brake lites damn!!... Dead kids!! But them black outs sure look cool don't they killer

Maybe they should learn to drive before getting in a car full of people or kids besides relying only on brake lights only to slow down. You also need spell check horribly newb.
You didn't answer my question, but I'll answer yours. You can't see out of a tinted window as clearly as a non-tinted window, despite what you may think. Anything that diminishes visibility is not a good thing when safety is involved. I'm not saying you can't see out of tinted windows, I'm saying you can't see through a tinted window as well as through a non-tinted window. This is a valid point, whether you like it or not.
I see these all the time to answer your question. They sure seem to diminished alot of light! Now imigiane you have sun glasses on. Now i guess according to your logic you will just run every red light.
Nice examples, except those signal lights are NOT tinted. They have louvers on their lenses that make them easier to see when the sun is shining directly on them. Any more examples that you think might prove you right?
To me and most people they are harder to see, tinted or not. Just don't ever where sunglasses when you drive since they are tinted.
I bought the 9 piece molded blackout kit from a forum vender (vetteshop). Don't get the flat ones. I've had mine for nearly a year and no problems. I do have all of my lights swapped out to LED. They run a special with a discount for forum members. I installed it all myself with no problems, even the front turn signal covers, which are tough unless you know you can push on the existing light and slide the blackout behind the frame and in front of the light, and it's done the easy way.
Actually, traffic signals like those you showed would be much harder to see during certain times of the day if the louvers weren't there. They serve a purpose and there's a reason why they're installed on the lenses of the signal lights, but you wouldn't understand because you apparently think there's nothing wrong with darkened tail lights that make it harder for drivers behind you to see when you apply your brakes.
As for your sunglasses comment, people (at least normal people) don't wear sunglasses all the time. They wear sunglasses when they need them, when it's very bright and it helps their vision by cutting down on the glare caused by bright sunlight. As opposed to tinted/darkened tail lights, which are that way all the time, day and night. So your analogy is hardly valid.
When I did them it was about $240, but I checked his website a few days back and looks like it's $300 now. A little salty but worth every penny IMO as the finish has help up remarkably well.
Just took these so I hope you can see what they look like better here. Sorry, edited it to say these are the vetteshop ones, 4 tail lights, 2 back up lights, 2 front turn signal lights, 1 brake light, and I got the extra 2 side markers. They are not cheap. I did lose a side marker after a few months, so when I replaced it, I put some extra glue on the edges, but not much or it shows. I don't think I would put extra glue anywhere else, it's tricky and the sticky stuff works excellent on the other pieces.

The decision you have to make is screws or tape ons...I elected screws so I can take the lights out easier if I ever need too. When to lowes and bought longer black screws, the heads are bigger but I dont mind...this is a GS creations kit and side markers ad well. I also have all exterior lighting upgraded to LED.
