Default Techron jitters

I bought a '99 coupe with 113k about 6 weeks ago. I don't know if the previous owners used Techron or similar products. New plugs at 112k. Car runs pretty smooth, but sometimes after it warms up, at stops the engine "twitches" just a bit. First tank of gas DIC says 22.5 mpg, I measured manually 20 mpg, and that's with easy driving; seems a bit low for about 50/50 hwy/city. No gauge issues. So, should I start using Techron? Will it help mpg? Or will it possibly break loose junk and cause problems?. Thx guys.

Here is a link to how I suggest that you use fuel additives:

Try using Shell V-Power gasoline exclusively. It has the most Techron plus other detergents. A few tankfuls might make a big difference and it doesn't cost anything.

You may also consider changing your fuel filter. After 100,000 miles it due and one result will be slightly higher mileage.

You didn't change the plug wires ? With 113 K if they're original it could contribute to your twitches possibly. Bought mine with 121 K and did both plugs and wires. And use Shell 93 V-power exclusively along with an occasional 20 OZ. bottle of Techron, the car runs great.

Previous owner changed the plugs. Didn't think to ask if wires where replaced. Good advice.

May want to try cleaning your throttle body.

I agree and also the mass air flow sensor. CRC makes a dual pack with a specific spray can for each. You don't want to use anything else. There are many videos on you tube showing how to do it.

I run She'll 93 exclusively, too.

I have a question I think is pertinent: is it harmful to fill my tanks from a six gallon jug? Is it better or worse to fill while the motor is on or off?

Many thanks and enjoy your vette OP!

With that mileage, your O2 Sensors are most likely weak. Find someone to data log you PCM OR Get a Scanner that has the ability to monitor real time (Live Sensor Data) and see how the primary O2 sensors are performing.

Most scanners have some sort of O2 sensor scan function. I can tell you for a fact, that they get lazy over time. That will for sure have an effect on your cruising fuel mileage!

Before you replace them, make sure that the plugs and wires are good and all your vacuum lines are 100%. Also clean the MAF and TB.

Update: cleaned the MAF sensor, throttle body, and K&N air filter today! Great results: starts immediately (it was turning over several times before firing up), and runs smooth!!! Will post mpg results later. I'm about a quarter way thru the Shell-V fill. Next weekend: fuel filter. This forum is awesome! Thanks everyone!

Cool, I didn't think it was fuel problems since the performance changes and the fuel stays the same.
I think any car with injectors would do well to stick with top tier fuel. The cleaning additive used was originally developed by Chevron, at the request of Porsche, who was having trouble with clogged injectors on their new cars.

Glad the fix was found . I was very surprised at the results of cleaning my throttle body and maf sensor .

I was guessing plugs or wires, my skills are low and formed on pre computer cars, so I learn a lot by reading and try not to post a bunch of stupid low skill advice , I save that for politics.

Now that your this far,,, Check out those O2 sensors and make sure that they are SWITCHING properly. Should be swinging between 200 millivolts to 850 millivolts at idle and during steady state cruise

If they are hanging out around 450 millivolts, there NOT functioning properly.
