Balancer question. Silly Me!
So I managed to con someone into lending me his Gear Puller, and got the balancer off the front of the 19K engine yesterday.
HOWEVER (yeah, I said that)
I failed to 'mark' the balancer and crank prior to pulling it.
BUT
I did 'Ballistic Analysis' this morning, and managed to locate matching marks on the crank and the inside of the balancer to realign them for install. I'm doing front and rear main seals, along with the oil pan gaskets before I install this puppy in the next 3 to 4 weeks.
The Balancer has no weights in it, all the weight holes are empty.
Both engines (this and the one in the car currently, are (were) attached to Auto Trans.
Opinions?
(Just to soothe my 'first time' LS engine stuff.)
The current engine has just turned 144K miles and suddenly has a "TICK" in the bottom end, even after hot.
Heard it one morning while still in the driveway, and then checked later in the day after a 30 mile highway run. Still there.
As I'm going to go to Corvettes at Carlisle this year, and have long tube headers out to be ceramic coated, along with the matching 3" X-pipe sitting here, all this 'upgrade' stuff and that "TICK" is telling me to GO with the engine NOW.
If it's pinned then it's pretty obvious...
Are you upgrading to a Power bond or some other damper other than the OEM... and a NEW ARP bolt?

The service manual discusses replacing the damper for an A4 and a manual trans C5. For the manual trans c5, it states to mark the OEM orientation and reinstall the damper back in the same orientation!!.
I have to say, that the diameter of the damper is a WHOLE LOT smaller than the flywheel and I seriously wouldn't really worry about the damper. Especially after you stated that yours is pin free!
I replaced my OEM Damper with a Power Bond and didn't have any issues with vibrations. My damper had some pins.
The FLYWHEEL on the other hand is a SERIOUS CONSIDERATION for reinstall orientation and getting the new flywheel matched balanced to the old one!
NOTE! If you heat the damper HUB to approx. 150-200 degs with a torch or Wagner heat gun, it will make removal/reinstall MUCH MUCH easier!

REALLY....
Because I apparently 'splayed' the end of the small threaded driver rod in the guy's Mac Tools Gear Puller, I had to GRIND off my Long Snap On 14mm / 15mm wrench.
AND
I called Mac Tools and ordered and paid for a NEW one for him.
Already in shipping.
That's the kind of guy I am!
I'll update you after I verify the sensors.

If the sensors that you obtained do not trigger by a magnet then the DIC procedure in the video is still correct except that you need to know the "trick" to triggering your brand of sensors.

most things with the C5 aren't THAT simple...
