Default GM front cover install question

I installed this today. The hood sleeve fastens with a nylon loop around a hood insulator holder on each side. This loop also has a metal hook. What is that for or go?

I have a spare GM bra and looked at the instructions. They really don't say what to use the hooks for. They are on the long elastic cords as well as the loops that are in the bottom of the piece that slips over the front edge of the hood. My guess is that they somehow attach together with the elastic cord, but in all honesty I took them off of mine and just use the elastic cord around the hood insulator attachment plugs. Never had a problem with the fit or performance of the bra on the car.

Thx. I will remove them. Like most instructions they leave something to be desired. I am happy with the fit and the price point.
