This is an update on my progress forward. A recap, thought the engine was toast after seeing a cloud of smoke and rough engine operation. Expected a complete rebuild. Removed the heads and only found a blown headgasket on passenger side. Took heads to reputable machine shop and came out with two new valves and new oil stem gaskets. Only a $180 bill and I ran before he changed his mind. He examined the cylinder chamber and headgasket and concluded the gasket was just OEM and needed a performance headgasket for supercharged LS engines.
Anyway, the heads were torqued down this afternoon and I'll get back on it tomorrow. I was happy not to strip any headbolts! YEA!
No I went back with OEM headbolts which should be OK for a couple of years. I just want it back on the road. It caught me flat footed financially since I've been splurging my income on firearms the past few years, being I've built up quite the armory room with weapons and safes enough to outfit a Squad. So the idea will be to get the car back on the road. Then quit buying guns and start buying all the needed parts for a more serious build, like a better block, better heads, better clutch, so I'll need about $15,000 or more. That should be about next Spring if I don't buy a new Ma Deuce .50 BMG.
Priorities are what I need to focus on.
