Hi, any advice for ct emission testing? It is every two years in ct which seems excessive. Last time they put it on a lift and may have chipped the bottom a bit, so I am worried. I heard if I drive it less than 5000 miles a year I may be exempt or if it is 15 years old, but I haven't confirmed.

Check with whomever oversees the emissions testing program in your state for answers to your questions. They should be able to tell you about any exemptions for low mileage, etc.
I live in Wisconsin. Emissions test is every 2 years. Wisconsin used to have emissions test stations run by the state. Car went on rollers and stuck the probe in the tail pipe. Did away with that a couple of years ago and now independent auto repair shops and dealers do the test by plugging into the OBD II under the dash only and the results are sent electronically to the Wisconsin Motor Vehicle Dept.

Yep Same story here.. CT use to be a roller /tail pipe sniffer test. As soon as OBD2 appeared, CT changed to private shop state monitored OBD2 check only.
Now,,, If you have an OLDER OBD1 car, you still do the rollers and tail pipe sniff.
Unless your car is heavily modded or running poorly, It will easily pass emissions.
If you have had (recently) or Currently have a CEL on the IPC that is caused PCM DTC, it probably WONT pass.
Something else that they check that can shut you down is the fuel tank cap O ring seal.
If the "O" Ring seal in your cap is deteriorated (READ ROTTED), it wont pass the fuel cap seal vacuum test! Been there had that!
If you get a fail, you get a one time retest after you correct the issue.
All's well that ends well. I went to Broadbridge Auto in Stratford ct. Drove up as C4 was leaving. They plugged it in and it passed. It was very easy and much better than the last time I had it tested. Cheers.
