I was in the Navy for 26 Years and when they adopted FULKE it became the GO TO METER. Very rugged and for me, "EASY TO USE". I got mine used very inexpensive. I also have some vintage Simpsons and a very old Vacuum Tube Volt Meter that I enjoy for shop use.

Some meters have a VERY WIDE RANGE of functions. If you are not familiar with meters, all that does is confuse you. Find a meter with basic functions: AMPS 0-10, Milliamps, Volts, Millivolts and OHMS.

Most FLUKES have nice meter leads.

Bill

Bill brings up a very good point about the leads. You want a meter with good leads or they will fail and it will be intermittent, which will leave you guessing. IMO you need to spend a bit to have a real instrument you can rely on. All those cheap throw away meters are just that....trash, not worth the plastic they are made with and will end up in the landfill as a waste product as many things that are too cheap do!

Just an opinion from someone who uses meters daily.
