When I bought my 04 vert, I notice some paint scratches at the rear of the trunk lip that probably were made when removing items from the trunk by the previous two owners. So I decided to make a protector.
I had some left over vinyl from another project that was bought at a fabric store. I used the self stick Velcro (the loop side) and attached it to the vinyl in three places; two sides and in the middle. I also sewed the Velcro to the vinyl. Otherwise, the heat in the trunk will un-stick it (lesson learned!). The looped Velcro side attaches nicely to the trunk’s carpet. When not using the vinyl, you can tuck it down on the back side of the trunk and it is out of the way.
Not a fancy DIY project but it works great. Here are some pics.
