There was a pretty good thread here a couple months back on the MGW vs. the Hinson, I would recommend looking it up. What I recall is that the Hinson has very short throws, shorter than the MGW and therefore requires more shift effort. I have the MGW myself and love it, I wouldn't want any additional shift effort than that for a DD. I drove a car with a Hurst once and liked it a lot but I hear that can be a bit noisy. Other options include Kirban, B&M, and probably others that I am forgetting. The one thing I always recommend is not judging a shifter right off the bat. They typically take a couple thousand miles to really break in nicely.
I bought my car with a MTI Six Shooter short throw and while the throws are very short, it takes a decent amount of effort, but it snaps into gear like a bolt action. I daily my Z, and it's fine. The only thing I've heard bad about the hurst is how heavy the return springs are, making reverse sometimes hard to get into
MGW here with a new c6 base and the trans detent shift mod. Shifts very nice. Only problem I ever have is sometimes after cruising in 6th on the hwy it can be tricky going back to 5th, Ive gone into 3rd a few times thinking its 5th. Not a huge deal because 3rd can go up to around 90 before redline. Thats the only complaint I have with it.
I've looked around and found a few different short throw shifters out there but wanted to get some feedback from others. What ones do you guys like/recommend for a daily driver? I liked the looks and build of the Hurst shifter, but have heard nice things about the MGW. I also found the Hinson shifter looked good too, similar to the MGW. Pros/cons of these or any others?
I replaced my B&M Ripper with an MGW this summer, WOW what a difference. Don't torture yourself. Spent the few extra bucks for the MGW.
All I'll say is stay away from the Breathless Performance one. My car came with it (private sale, previous owner installed) and while I've grown to be ok with it, EVERY single person who's driven my car has commented on "WTF IS UP WITH THIS SHIFTER?"
The springs are way too stiff. I'll never miss a shift from 1-4, but the 4-5 is a nightmare at racing speeds.

I have an older model mgw, bought it about 6 years ago right after I got the car... I did add one washer to the detent rod in the trans (this is referred to as the "antivenom" mod) and I like it so much that I can't justify switching it out for one of his newer shifters with the billet lower box... I highly recommend mgw, the quality of his parts (even down to the instructions) and company in general are a rarity in this business
I just put an MGW in mine w/the detent mod. I like a shifter to be firm & short. (not firm like I'm fighting it tho). The MGW is ok, def good for a DD, it is not firm by any means IMO and I would prefer the throw to be even shorter.

I can only speak for myself but my mgw is silent, I have never noticed any drivetrain noise transmitted through it or any noises when switching gears... it's quiet, precise, and smooth
Drivetrain noise significantly reduced from the MGW to Hinsen.
My MGW came with sound and heat insulating material. Added it when I pulled the stock unit out, and I can say without a doubt that the MGW is silent. Zero noise comes through the shifter. OP- if you're in to the shortest shifts available, go with the Hinson. Everything else goes to the MGW.
