Today with temps only in the high 70’s I went in the 04 vert with top down to get some corn and watermelon from the local farm that is about 5 miles away. Two hours later came home with 50 miles on the meter over country roads. Walked in and wife said, where have you been, it is only 10 minutes away (if you are getting ready to retire, be prepared for the time and place questions). So how long are your short trips in your Vette?
I go to car meet every Tues. night and I would mention the weather in a another town, and the comment is "That's 100 miles out of you way" and I smile !!!! (a big smile)
The first week I had my newest Vette...its been about 5 years since the last one...my wife and I came home from dinner about 9:30. I told her I needed to run to the 7/11 for a minute. By the time I got home it was after midnight. I don't even remember where I went or what roads I took...but it was a really good time.
Several times my wife and I have left in the morning picked a direction and drove until evening, stopping for lunch or dinner along the way. Short trips almost always become long trips.

It seems like I always put more miles on the car than I expect when I go out for a drive. It's kind of like the car has a mind of its own and just keeps taking me down the road. Not like I'm complaining though.
I always take the smoothest route which seems to turn into the longest route.
Funny thing is, I bitch about the price of gas in my other vehicles but it never seems to get mentioned while driving the Vette.

I'm with you! Any excuse will do. Not long ago decided to go for a ride, left Texas and went over to Louisiana for a chinese takeout lunch (that was the excuse!), drop top down, tunes, wind, sun, by myself, thats what its all about! Have a good one and best wishes!
I have been driving mine about 10 miles a day, every day for 16 years... that's it!
I never take mine out of town and the streets are like a 3rd world country around here - so only a few semi-safe routes to get a few places. There are lots of areas in town I can no longer access at all. I sometimes call a Taxi or rent a car if I have an appointment across town as it is not worth the risk. We have sink-holes even in parking lots that are almost the size of a Corvette and when it rains they are sometimes completely hidden by standing water.
On the plus side the local Property Taxes are crippling! Mine are almost as much as my entire house payment was including taxes and insurance when I first built my home 20 years ago!!!

Have you considered moving or are you locked into that area? You are missing out, man.
I tend to get lost on the way home much more often when I'm in the 'Vette. Work lunch breaks sometimes go longer than they're supposed to on really nice days because the service in some restaurants is just slower....
