Have any of you put some kind of light-colored cloth seat covers on your black seats in the summer? It gets mighty hot down here in the South.
If I park in the sun I put up a w/s sun screen and crack the windows. You could tint the windows. If you cover the seats, the leather will dry out unless you plan on removing them to condition the leather occasionally. Sheepskin covers are great but again the leather will dry out.
?? I have an all black interior and mine doesn't seem to get very hot. A bit warm maybe, but not hot. My targa only has the body colored top though, and my windows are not tinted. I'm in the super humid South where it feels like death's door every summer.
I agree with above; a simple reflective screen on the windshield helps tremendously. I also do not put any dressing or coating on my seats or interior. Only gets cleaned with a cloth and left alone.
Thanks for your responses. I should've been a little more clear with my question. I was referring to times when the top is down. Like you, I don't have too much trouble when the top's up.

I use a pair of cloth slip on seat covers on my VE leather seats to help with the wear and also to keep them cool in the summer. The covers slip on/off in a matter of seconds and do a great job with the heat. They came with the car when I bought it and I believe they were purchased from Ecklers.
Many years ago I remember my best friends Italian grandfather sitting on the hot seat of an old Bonneville. His response I can still hear today, "Ooh, hot my ***".
I have a dash pad with some aluminized bubble wrap foam insulation under it as the dash still gets really hot, I use an aluminized front window sun shield to keep the sun and heat out, and I have faux sheepskins over both seats which not only keeps it cooler to sit on but it keeps you from sweating up against the seats. It does get hot down in Florida if you have to park outside in the sun.
No problem here, tint the windows, cover the windshield when out of the car and park in the shade as much as you can. My Z's cabin is small and cools off quick. I'm from Bakersfield where the average temp in summer is between 98 to 105 degrees in the shade !!!
I don't know the percentage, but all my windows are pretty heavily tinted and it's not so much that the seats themselves get hot, it's that the interior of the car gets hot, and the seats secondarily. My dash really gets hot and that's why I try and shield it from the sun, to keep it from drying and cracking in the heat. But, open the windows for a minute as you drive to get the hot air out, turn on the AC, and in less than a minute, you're good to go.
I had a black 911 Targa 25 years ago with tinted glass and it got so hot inside that car that you could not touch the steering wheel for 5 minutes after you opened up the car. I once left a thermometer inside and got a temp of 140 degrees one afternoon. And the AC would never cool it down lower than 80. Got rid of it.
Ceramic tint, not dark tint, is what you want to block the actual solar heat coming through the windows, and can be had in "clear" and applied to the entire windshield.
Thanks to you and all who gave suggestions. I've ordered a pair of these seat covers. They look like they'll at least help some and hopefully will be easily put on and removed.
