Has anyone tried out swapping the OEM headlights to an LED option? I know RadioFlyer makes kick *** HID kits but with LED beginning to trickle into the aftermarket I am wondering if maybe I should skip right past HID.
I found the website below promoting direct swap in LED bulb kits that should fit the OEM housing and the pictures seem to look ok but I only saw a handful of reviews. Would love to have some input from my forum bretheren on the matter.
This is asked almost daily... The heat sinks will likely interfere.
The only thing that will provide a worthwhile bridge between halogen and the cost of RF's HID kit are HIR's. Again, there is another thread on this very topic only like 4 posts up.
The big issue I've read is the lights don't close due to low output to tell electronics to close. and of course fitment issues due to bulky heat sinks
I saw one brand that had flexible metal bands for heat sinks they looked cool
When a great LED headlight conversion kit is developed for the C5, my bet is that RadioFlyer will be the one who comes out with it.
While I appreciated the optimism, the truth is this will not likely happen. Because the C5's headlight require a particular amperage draw to activate the raise-lower trigger on the control module, no LED solution will allow the headlights to work properly without using a high-wattage resistor that gets dangerously hot. By our high quality HID systems do not have this issue and deliver higher output, tighter focused light without any extra requirements.
The high beams on the other hand, those can be made LED and we use those on out fixed and pop up headlight kits......and will use a high-output LED high beam on our new "illuminator's" low rise kit when that comes out (most likely early next year)
