A lot of guys store outside so you should get a good idea on car covers. I have a decent 4 layer but they run 250 and up. I have a garage as well though. Summer tires in winter is not a good idea due to the tread compound and the resulting hardness (I.e. like driving on Formica) in or at freezing temps. However (vs letting the car sit) I will go out here in Colorado on a 35+ degree sunny day and drive "normal" and have never had an issue with traction. I have never had to make a panic stop either. I can do 15 miles or so on back roads and at least get the car "exercised".

I don't know if I'd say it was the best, but the Covercraft Noah is a pretty good cover and I'm happy with it. They are under $250.

Unfortunately the one BIG problem I have with outdoor covers is that the elastic band starts to weaken and won't hold and the cover only having a single cable location (in the middle), they never stay on during a strong windy rain storm.

Yeah, but they sell Gust Guards that help.

I have this one and am pleased with it so far. http://www.carcovers.com/covers/cars...car-cover.html

I've only had it a year, but, it seems to be well made, fits good and has a lifetime warranty and for under $200 it was a good buy.

When it's going to be sitting for a couple of weeks or more, I have a Black & Decker battery tender I hook up. If snows predicted, I just drive my dually and the cover and tender go on the Vette. I drive it all the time otherwise.

Those snow pictures REALLY upset me I'm not ready for this again.............OP what about a carport or pop-up garage? I would go that route if the funds allow you to, it would kill me to see my car covered in snow like that even with a cover.

I don't have a tender, but I am driving the car unless it is snow/ice, then it's the Silverado. I do need to get a car cover this year for sure. The halo seal is toast and I get a lot of water inside. Good thing my driveway is angled so it all gathers behind the seat (where I keep a super shami).

Mine gets like this so I just waits till it melts. I've thought about a cover but worry it would do more harm than good if the wind blows it around.

Wow! I have the same cover you do!! Didn't cost much either!

I actually do have a cover but it is pretty light weight and I worry about the wind moving parts of it around and wearing through the paint or clearcoat. But I also drive mine year-round when not driving my truck.

So....unless a cover is heavy and not prone to moving....I'll keep it waxed and go without.

Mine has almost ten years of coverless outdoor life with 120K on the clock and a guy in a parking lot recently said "It looks brand new!!"

Consider one of those vinyl pole garages!

Mine cost about $180, is rated waterproof, mirror pockets and has straps at each end to hold it down besides the elastic. Unfortunately I'll have to research where I got it and let you know.

I used to consider those until a friend had one get covered in snow and collapse on his boat. The damage wasn't as bad as if it would have been metal (seen those collapse, too) but not sure it wouldn't have done fine uncovered.
