Thanks very much for the support guys. Got home from work and my 12yr was in tears for me 'cos he knows how much I love that car. Bless him :-)
Anyway, I went to a local body shop on the way home, a place that did good work for me previously. He quoted $562 all in, and then went on to explain the process of removing mirror, window trim and door handle. I told him I'd do all that (except the BSM), and he dropped to $300.
Expensive day, but not a bad price I guess.
Andy
PS, when the works done I'll come back with a photo and will mention the bodyshop.
Glad you'll be able to get it taken care of but that's still some bullshit.
I've been driving for 50 years +. Ive always had a head turner of a car. Ive always parked anywhere: grocery store, bank, gym, Mall, drug store, big box store, etc. I always park smart. meaning I park were my car does not stand out, as if it is special. I park as close to other foot traffic as possible. I park as close to the entrance as possible. I try to get an end sport, or a spot where someone has just pulled in, I never park next to a 2 door car. never park on a hill or where a door can swing out in the gust of wind. If IM not comfortable with a smart parking spot I wont park. I NEVER, take up two parking spots or park out in the boon docks..
IM smart enough to know that this kind of thing can happen at any time no matter how you try to prevent it. It is a shame but I've been lucky, and I've also seen people be very respectful of my car when they thought no one was looking. I've show plenty of photos of my car parked along side others in parking lots... My car does not have one nick or scratch on it.
If it happens, I will be upset, but for 50 years I have been lucky. I think parking smart helps....how I choose to park smart is something that has worked for me.
Maybe Evil-Twin you live in a 50 year yesterday area, but not me. I would never park in any of those areas. My wife pulls through all parking areas so she is facing forward to leave an area. I looked at her rear bumper this morning and yet, someone hit her in the rear. Luckily, I was able to pop the dent out and put some paint on the scrape. Yes, you are fortunate to not have any issues over 50 years. Not my experience.
No parking spot is completely safe, but I always thought parking next to an extra-wide handicap spot would be better than most. Until...
One day last year I saw a van pull into a handicap spot next to a nice new SUV. Tons of room between the two vehicles. But then the door slid back on the van, a ramp lowered and a person in a scooter chair exited the van. Then she proceeded to scrape the end of her handlebar down the door and quarter of the SUV, with no clue about the huge scratch it made.
Oh, to have 30mins with the person that did this to my 99 this morning. Nothing hollows out your faith in fellow man like having this done to your pride and joy.
Sorry Andy to see that someone was SO F*CKING JEALOUS of your car that they had to show it in this manner
This can happen to anyone of us that drive and park in public places.
Weak punks.

Looking at the damage to your Corvette it looks the exact same as my Corvette after it was keyed (except mine is black) I know your pain. I had my repaired by my local GM dealership. They must have felt sorry for me (I know, no one feel sorry for a Corvette owner, lol) The paint job was every bit as good as factory, they removed the mirror trim and door handle and painted my rear view mirror housing (had some previous damage) all for $300-. You have to know that took the sting out of the damage plus GM got a commendation from yours truly. These vandals only want one thing and that is to take away the joy that your Corvette gives you....IMHO All the best, Rob
from the height/length/depth/science I can tell that scratch was made by an illegal. Once trump is in office our corvettes will all be safe and we'll get everything for free because we're so f@ck!ng american in our corvettes.
Seriously though, lots of you guys talking about fighting this guy, would probably get beaten to a pulp by him and his vandal friends.
Talk all you want to let out frustration, but let's not get any 65 year old men hurt by inspiring them to jump a 20 year old who scratched a car.

What I have noticed through observation is that everyone who approaches my car. to look inside or take a photo or park next to it, has been overly respectful. I see people keeping their kids back as they look at my car... Before I got sick.. I use to spend two hours at the gym 6 days a week. I spent an hour on the tread mill while looking right out at my car parked in the lot. ( One of those pictures above. )
IN that hour I would observe people as they went into the other stores where my gym is located and shares the parking lot. Some of the people were comical in their body language when observing my car...
BTW I live in the suburbs of Philly. Certainly not your typical 50 year yesterday area.
I've seen lots of people attack cars parked out in the boonies, or when taking two spaces, or just putting their car in a spot where you want to treat it special, over my lifetime. When I lived in Michigan, I never had a problem, not even in Detroit. Lucky? or a culmination of smart choices. My biggest defense is to park where lots of people are around, the more the better.. no one is going to key a nice car, with so many witnesses around. Most of these people are jealous cowards who will seize an opportunity to show their caliber. Being cowards, they don't want witnesses.
