Hey OP, id strongly recommend getting a replacement , used OEM door rather then a paint job

I guarantee it will never match, not at $300 , and probably not at $3000 dollars, its a tough color

OP, in a standard auto policy, your insurance company is only responsible to ‘reasonably’ repair the damage area. In your claim, it is just the door. There is no provision in the policy that obligates the insurance carrier to guarantee the work for the life of ownership or guarantee the repairs match the non damage area. That is between you and the repair shop. Most reputable repair paint shops should be skilled enough to adequately blend in the new paint with a 17 year old paint or maybe not. If not, they will tell you and should provide options that will minimize the color difference. If they do, normally it will be on your wallet. After adjusting auto claims for 15 years, I seen some great results and also some terrible ones. Good luck on the repairs.

I seriously doubt that it was a "homo" that keyed his car. I haven't heard that term used like that since I was in junior high.

I think its a lot like real estate, all real estate is local. Down here (South Florida), its a male, between 15 and 40 years old, who DOESN'T own a car and rides a bike for transportation, did the deed.

I would agree, but it happened at his office parking lot used by professionals. More than likely it was a a coworker that had an issue with the OP. It wasn't a random act in my opinion. It happened quite often where I used to work, until they put up security cameras.

probably because mature adult males don't use the word homos as an insult.

But I promise you that the person who keyed his car was a homo. Other Genus' aren't so petty.

This is 2016, My question is what is the definition of a " Homo". I never equated an act of vandalism to be associated with the word Homo
Homo sapiens
Homosexual
Homophobe
Homogeneous

AndyDove, I disagree with what the poster said about the repair.
I have repaired dozens of cars vandalized the exact same way as yours and it is a simple process.

That color is easy to match. They will (or SHOULD) paint the damaged area and blend the basecoat into the 1/4 panel and fender, then clear the whole side.

It will match 100% and you will never know it has been painted if the shop is good. Nothing complicated about it, nothing to worry about.

I would just make sure they have a lifetime guarantee against peeling and also tell them you don't want tape lines or dry spray in the jambs from the overspray. If they do it right, it will not be noticable. (they should use foam tape in the jambs for a soft edge)

Good luck, and I feel your pain. Someone opened their door into the side mirror on our C5 a few weeks ago and I was livid even though it polished off.

I didn't get much into this for my own reasons, that said I agree with this post, my body guy can match anything, he is a wizard !!!!

Just want to thank for forum for all the empathy, advice and guidance. I was looking around ebay yesterday, and unbelievably found somebody (www.aescorvetteparts.com) selling a RH pewter door down near the local airport (DTW). Advertised for $460 with free delivery, but he took $300+tax for pickup. It was covered in warehouse grime, but there's pretty immaculate paint underneath. I've washed, claybared, polished and waxed and it's in great shape. Color is an absolutely perfect OE match.

I've also bought a surveillance camera from Amazon and will wire it in permanently behind the mirror.

Thanks all :-)

/Andy

Glad to hear it worked out. Maybe you can sell your old door or use it for parts.

At the end of the day, the car gets fixed.

The psychopath that did it is still walking around. To me, car scratches always scream psycho ex-girlfriend. Not saying that's the case here though. Maybe someone got fired that day, IDK.

I think the camera mentioned earlier is a good idea. At that price I may get one.
I'm glad the OP had the courage to post his misfortune for safety sake.

I had just purchased a new 3 series BMW with my wife,....sweet, dark blue, tan leather, inline 6, 5 speed manual,........fun to drive. 300 to 400 miles on the car,.......I mean NEW.

We come out of our hotel and walk around the corner to see the family in the car next to our car with all the doors open and in contact with both our car and the car parked on the other side. To make it worse, the toddler was laying on the back seat with his legs on the door in contact with my new car and was slamming the door repeatedly into my BMW. My just yesterday, perfectly new, perfectly perfect car. Did I mention I ordered it ?

I pull out my phone and begin to take pictures of EVERYTHING.

The parents notice us.

The parents pull the child out of the car and examine the damage to my car. There was a lot of swearing.

My wife walks in the other direction in disgust "I am going back to the room while you take care of this"

$1200 damage, the door skin had to be replaced..........the scary thing is this,.............if we had arrived 2 minutes later, they would have yelled at their kids, closed the door and left. We would have been screwed.
