Default Head Light Question

When ever I start my 04 it is dark enough in my garage for the head lights to open and come on.. There had been a few times when the one on the passenger side had stayed closed.. Is there a sensor on both lights or is there something going wrong with it ? Thanks for any help ..

Any noise from it? This is a common failure of stripped gears
