Default Vert Question

Ok, I am a NEW 2002 vert and New Vette owner and was curious as to whether it is better to store for the winter with the latches latched or unlatched for the top? Don't flame me for asking a dumb question! Inquiring minds want to know and this seems like a good place to ask as there is a lot of knowledge here. Been lurking for a while so thanks in advance

I have a vert and always leave it latched...never have had issues. Really don't know what benefits are unlatched. (mice/burglars may have easier access, lol)

Not sure it matters but I don't engage the latches. I feel as though that involves some stress on the parts that's unnecessary, assuming that the storage is indoors.

anytime my top is up its latched. I'm always afraid I'll drive off with it unlatched!

I unlatch mine over the winter. I figure not having the weatherstrip crushed for 6 months might make it seal better and last longer. Who knows.

I leave the top down all the time with no detrimental consequences.

Wow, lots of opinions and all of them good. I am the original owner of my 03, the top is almost always on and latched. The car is garaged and I use 303 products on the top. She is snowed in about 6-9 weeks a year. 108K miles and looks like new. Do take care for the critters if req'd.

Well I'd think it won't open up since the back has to come up also. Some wind mind lift it some and it'll rattle so you'll know you forgot 'something' and reach up and latch them. When I leave mine unlatched I leave the visors down so I'll remember to latch.
At least we vert owners don't have to worry about the FRS !

Keep it latched so the top stays tight. Weather strip won't be affected.

Leaving it down for long periods may cause wrinkles

Never put it down wet.

The top is still tight with it unlatched. It just takes pressure off the weather strip. Weatherstrip does wear out over time. It becomes less resilient and loses memory. It's one reason cars leak and weatherstrip has to be replaced. It doesn't hurt a thing to unlatch the top for 6 months of storage.
I had to replace all the weatherstrip in my C3 because it would not bounce back anymore. It stayed in the crushed position. I am trying to prevent that in the C5.

Before I put my vert up for the winter I use the GM seal lube on all weather strip latch the top, windows all up dryer sheet inside the car, battery tender attached and cover on. Car is stored in garage. We do get some sunny days during the winter so I do take the car out for a cruise and get everything warmed up then return to storage until the next nice day.

My black top has been down since it was new 7 years ago.It has been up once for about 4 hours and there are no wrinkles in it.
