Default Advis needed before attempting heater fix

I need advise before I try to repair for no heat. A/C AC works fine, just no heat. Recently purchased 03 C5. I have dual climate control. Have flushed the system, checked vacuum and reset codes by removing #27 fuse and disconnecting the battery clearing the codes which return almost immediately. Mechanic confirmed inlet and outlet hosed on heater core are hot. A/C vent doors and fans work as expected.

From threads here that I have read it seems that I need to replace both driver and passenger actuators.

Before I purchase both actuators does anyone have any suggestions for what else I need to check, or do I need to replace the actuators.

Chilly in Illinois.

Plan on 3 to 4 hours to take apart the dash. Same again to put it back together.
30 seconds to a minute to change both actuators.

Nothing else comes to mind - oh -- oh -- oh Since you have the dash panel off, change the Hazard Flasher. It's right there in front of you (after you take the entire dash apart).

You say all this about codes, so how about posting what codes came up?

So you agree with me that replacing the actuators is the right thing to do?

First try raising the temperature very slowly. There is a Service Bulletin listed at Corvette Action Center for C5 Corvettes that describes a no heat condition when spinning the temperature **** rapidly; this apparently can confuse the computer.

My car exhibited that symptom years ago, but now I turn the **** slowly and all is well.

Default No heat problem.

I read that in some of these posts. I tried moving the dial slowly after clearing the Codes. No luck. Still no heat what so ever.

Any other idas would be appreciate.

If you have tried all of the re-calibration steps for the HVAC actuators and are still having the issue, then replacement is the way to go.

The Dorman 604-106 is the replacement. The same one is used for the drivers and passenger side.

The dash pad has to come out to replace the passenger side. The drivers can be done by removing the IPC and the Bose audio processor under the dash.

Here are two links to dash removal instructions http://tech.corvettecentral.com/2013...-dash-removal/ and https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...d-install.html.

There are two screws holding the actuators to the heater box. They have a 7/32 inch head on them. The drivers side can be undone with a nut driver. The passenger you will need a long extension on a ratchet. I have used a 1/4 inch drive 7/32 deep socket with a 4 inch extension to get the bolts out.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Gary,

When you say "steps", how many are there and what are they?.

You need to get the actuators to go through their indexing / calibration cycle. Pull the hvac fuse and reinstall or turn the HVAC system off and on several times, reset the DTCs several times and then see if you can get the motors to run. When you reset the DTCs the actuator motors will/ should cycle stop to stop.

The steps that Bill outlined, pulling the fuse and resetting the codes. If this does not work and you have the actuator codes

DTC B0361 Left Actuator Feedback Short to GND
DTC B0363 Left Actuator Feedback Open
DTC B0365 Right Actuator Feedback Short to GND
DTC B0367 Right Actuator Feedback Open
DTC B0432 Rear Defogger Relay Circuit
DTC B0433 Rear Defogger Relay Circuit
DTC B0441 Left Actuator Out of Range
DTC B0446 Right Actuator Out of Range

If you have any of the above and they are not clearing after pulling the fuse the actuator would need to be replaced. The fuse needs to be out for over a minute to discharge the circuit and force the re-index. The fuse to pull is in the passenger foot well fuse block and is for the HVAC system.

I've already pulled fuse 27 multiple times and disconnected the battery. I will replace the actuators.

Thanks for responding so quickly. It is really appreciated.

Its super easy to pull the dash. I have pulled mine three times and last two times it's out in a half hour or less.
Then you can watch the actuator. They should spin move their shafts when you turn the temp dial up and down.
I had to replace mine twice. It's straight forward with the dash out. The reinstall takes longer. I've seen the difficulty exaggerated a few times on here.

I have the same problem. I was throwing B0363 HC , B0365 H, B0367, B0441 H C , No heat, but AC was fine. I Swapped Hvac head. Problem same
R&R driver Actuator, (installed OEM DELCI stock GM Part driver side), Open old Actuator (yes the Grear was broke off shaft)
Still throwing codes B0363 code, and B0441 .. Did not do passengers actuator.
The Driver side Actuator is constantly rotating, and under the dash view shows its moving.
I did R&R fues 27 with ignition on, and ac on and ac off.
I think the actuator can only go be installed one way, So must be computer not resting. Maybe Body computer? Is there anything other module / sensor in the loop with the actuator and head unit?
I see to many people with this problem. I must solve this mystery..

Replied to your PM.

Also, where do you reside. Possibly there is a member in your area that can assist you with the troubleshooting.

Do some window shopping before you buy the actuators. I was having issues with my 03 Silverado and Auto Zone and Advanced Auto wanted over $55 for one, found the same one on eBay for around $28 bucks with free shipping.

Hey C5 Bounce. I also live in the Charlotte area. I'm actually in the middle replacing my passenger side actuator on my '02 C5Z. I took the dash apart last weekend and ordered the actuator online from a company in Texas. Definitely shop around. I paid $40.00 for the new actuator. There's an auto parts store here in Huntersville that wanted to charge me over $130.00 for the same actuator.
I replaced the actuator tonight and I'm in the middle of reinstalling my dash. Removing the dash and reinstalling it really is easier than I thought it would be. If you have any questions, send me a PM.
