Need my fellow CF Family's assistance. I am selling my C5 and I have a guy that claims to be interested. I'm not too familiar with sending and receiving this amount of money on Papay but please tell me if the following sounds legit. My thing is why would a business need to have services paid for through Western Union........Thanks in advance
Got the information. My apologies! I had this little problem with the shipping agent, the shipping agent says that I will need to pay an upfront payment for the picking up before they can arrange a pick up time and register the car for picking, they charged me $900.00 for picking up and home delivery. I wish to inform you that i would be adding an extra $1,000.00 to the money am transferring into your PayPal account, which is for the charged pick up fee for the pick up company to register the car for pick up. Payment made to shipping HQ can only be sent through Western Union Money Transfer only and there is no Western Union Money Transfer section here at my present location to send the money to them over here. So now i will be transferring the total amount of $10,000.00 into your account and you will help me send the $1,000.00 to the agent via Western Union and the remaining $100 is to cover WU transfer charges.
PayPal insurance policy will be informed about the process as well. Sorry to put this on you, cos without the pick up, the purchase can't hold so that's the reason why your help is needed. So kindly get back to me as soon as possible if you can help me sort this out so i can send the payment ?
Bwu ha ha... oh, you're serious?
Bottom line is you'll pay them $1000 for the privilege of stealing your car. They are either falsifying the PayPal account in the first place, or will get back the money with a dispute.
Exactly what I was thinking. Sounded just too crazy for me to even consider. This is why I posted my car to sell here on the forum but decided to take a chance on Craigslist but it's coming off of there. If not sold on here or in a way that on the straight and narrow I'll just sell to local dealer. This is crazy. Thanks.
I figured I'd take a chance on Craigslist but I'm closing the add. I'll just keep it here and advertise it locally with the good old "For Sale By Owner" sign. Thanks again.

There have been a lot stories about such scams and I would not reply or go any further.

CL is a great way to sell stuff if you don't mind weeding out the scammers and people who just want to waste your time.
Cash, check or EFT after verification that it cleared and the customer is in good standing with the bank the money is being transferred from. Scammers are a very ingenious bunch.
You would not believe the texts I've received. Many say to call their dad, or their wife. Good thing I'm with the government and can run numbers and do checks. When I call numbers that they text from it out of service and or a "Text Me" number. I may leave it on CL a little longer but it is just crazy how they sit and look for someone to rob.

LOL no western union. They are trying to reverse scam you, once the car is on their shipping boat and in their country they dispute the charge or paypal finds out they paid with a bad credit card you are out your car and money. You will be able to do NOTHING about it as they have the car and a signed title.

The problem I have with Pay Pal is there are so many fake Pay Pal emails that try to get you to "log in" to deal with some supposed urgent matter, and once you "log in" what you've really done is given them your user name and password, then they use your credentials to log into your actual Pay Pal account and order merchandise or steal cash, so I am very careful about how I access it. Ebay or legitimate business link or direct login, otherwise I just ignore all emails about Pay Pal and I am very careful about using Pay Pal links on some site where I don't really know the business. Craigslist, no way.
In a related note, not really on topic, but I read about this new scam that is bilking people out of hundreds of thousands, seems hackers now hack real estate company sites looking to get ahold of the names of people who have purchased houses and all the details of the sale. Took one guy in my home town for 150 grand. Once they have the sale information and purchase agreement hacked, they call the person buying the house, posing as the title company who is closing the sale, and tell the victim that since their closing is coming up in a few days, they would like to get an electronic fund transfer of the down payment/mortgage money/purchase cash initiated so it's "all completed so we can close Tuesday" etc.... They also offer to walk the victim through on how to transfer the funds electronically to the "closing company", and they intersperse it all with a lot of banter about the house etc from all the details they gleened from the hack, all to put the victim's mind at ease as they transfer their victim's life savings to a offshore bank account...... So, if you're buying a house in the future, watch out for this one......
