Default Steering column lock motor removal

Hi guys!
Two months ago i installed the LMC5 after having the issue "pull key 10 sec" and "steering column lock".Never have this issue again but tomorrow i try to remove the steering column lock motor because i'm terrify that it happen during driving or out from my garage.
Two question :
1)It's possible that it locked during driving?
2)It's possible to remove the motor without remove the steering wheel?

I looked for similar thread but nothing found.

Thanks to all for answer.

Greetings from Italy

I didn't tell the motor is frozen.I unlocked it with the unlocker and a hummer after this operation the steering wheel is always free to turn.

Answer to question 2:

Here is a link with some pictures of the lock motor on the C5:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...lumn-lock.html

First of all you cannot permanently remove the housing that the lock motor sits inside of because it acts as a spacer for other items stacked on the column. Second the only way to get to the inerds of the housing Motor and lock pin) is to remove the housing and since it surrounds the column you have to take the steering wheel off.

If you are really that paranoid about the lock motor you could uninstall the LMC5, let the motor lock (extend the lock pin) and then hack saw off the end of the lock pin. Then reinstall the LMC5.

But frankly you are worrying about a non problem. Leave things alone and bite down hard on a bullet or something and recognize there is no further problem once the LMC5 is correctly insalled.............
Thank you my friend!
I think the hack saw is the faster and easier solution :agree:
Can i do this without remove the steering wheel?
I mean i've only to remove the shells around, right?
Hope it because i have not the extractor for the C5,the holes is really different from the other car in Italy.

I've read the link and look at the picture and he also said : Although the probability of having the column lock up while driving is very small, the consequences would be bad (think of oncoming traffic)

Re-read my two sentence answer to your question 1. If you have the LMC5 installed there is NO LONGER power to the lock motor so the column CANNOT lock.
oh sorry,ok,thank you 8VETTE7 then i don't do anything
